ive never seen anyone on snl so constantly take bad to mediocre material and make it great. at least for me she now rates as the best female player ever on snl, and probably top 5 including the men.

She was also the only funny thing about Knocked Up, for those playing the home game.

Yeah, that was pretty bad. Most everything else is pretty good, though.

Nothing has ever been as bad as that couple that Armison and Maya Rudolph plays.

She's pretty funny. I was impressed with her character on Weekend Update.

I thought the Death by Chocolate was actually kind of funny.

I feel like there are plenty of funny people in the current SNL cast but rarely do they actually deliver laughs on the show - only in movies and on other shows do they really shine. Who knew that Tina Fey was funny before 30 Rock?

I was laughing hysterically from her "performance" in the Surprise Party bit with Mr. Walken. Hilarious. I know she was in the Dewey Cox movie, but I don't remember her in Knocked Up.

I thought Mean Girls was decent, but 30 Rock delivers more laughs in 30 minutes than SNL delivers in 1/2 a season.

I haven't made it through more than 2 commercial breaks for that show in 4 years.

I hate to make a logistical point on an artistic argument, but here I go. One of the things that cripples SNL is the preponderance of skits that would be funny at 30 seconds-1 or 2 minutes but go on far longer than they should.

This is because of the time necessary to switch around set pieces required for each skit, of which there can realistically only be a dozen or so per week at most just because of the physical space of the studio. A good friend went to a rehearsal for the show last year and got to see it all in action; said it was incredible how fast things were being changed over and how close to not making it they came just during the rehearsal.

Now that one factor doesn't excuse bad talent and writing, both of which are present too often, but it does serve to exacerbate them. But I still laugh a lot at some episodes and get some chuckles out of others. Walken last week made everything he did a good 20-25% better than it should've been, and other stuff just got knocked out of the park.

As for Wiig; she's putting together a hell of a streak on the show and is becoming a threat in movies. Her bit in "Knocked Up" kind of wore on me but I've dug everything else, especially as the bear trainer in "Semi-Pro".

Sometimes I wait to catch the news, but rarely.

I loved:

Death by Chocolate
Walken family reunion
Nicholas Fehn -- I know a lot of y'all are going to disagree with me about him, that he's the most annoying character in all of creation, but I know people like this -- not as complete satire as this guy is, but I think he's a genius for pulling off the completely schizophrenic, rambling, non-sequitur after non-sequitur. I mean, it's got to take an effort to not ever make a point, to never be coherent.

I mean, check this out.

"I saw Dmitry."
"Oh. Cool. I don't know who that is, but ... great."

That said, I hate the "just kidding" lady. Which is weird, because I should like her for exactly the same reasons.

"Penelope" was a pretty funny character the first few times, but it's gotten pretty old. A lot of her stuff is too one-note to have much staying power.
