So I took the Fundamentals of Engineering exam today. A few of you around here may know what it is. Thank god thats over.

Basically I got up at 5:30, started the exam at 7:40, got 30 minutes for lunch at 12:15, and finished the whole thing at 5:45. In between, I had to try and remember every bit of engineering, physics, math, etc. that I learned over the last 9 years.

Most school's don't require that you take it, and unless you want to get a Professional Engineer's license it doesn't do much for your career. But my school requires that we take it, spend over 150 hours studying for it, make us sit for 5 hours a week in review classes for it, and not give us a single credit for it.

Not fun in the least. Be glad you don't have to take it.

why study so hard if it doesn't help your career or hurt your GPA? If you don't pass do you not graduate?

Yeah, that is sort of fucked up, but it reminds me of my comprehensive exams for grad school. There's no credit and it doesn't hurt your GPA, but without it you will never become a PHD or someone competing with Loogs for a job.

My friends took this while we were in school...thankfully I decided not to. Especially since I decided not to have a career in engineering.
