heres my list - top 2 were obvious to me - lots of depth, great characters, humour, and interesting reflections on life

1. Hicksville - Dylan Horrocks
2. Wimbledon Green - Seth
3. American Elf - James Kochalka
4. Fair Weather - Joe Matt
5. Persepolis - Marjane Satrapi
6. Diary of a mosquito abatement man - John Porcellino
7. Banana Sunday - Nibot/Coover
8. Fox Bunny Funny - Andy Hartzell
9. The ride home - Joey Weiser
10. Jimmy Corrigan - Chris Ware

Some of those like Fox Bunny Funny - the art is impressive. Others like Persepolis and Mosquito abatement man - just tell a story with lots of feeling. Anyway, i love all of the above, and wonder if you guys are familiar with any of them.

Do it. It's some of the best printed material of all time, transcending all genres.

Certainly would make my top 10. I think my number 1 would be Epilepsy by David B.

Not a one.

Mine look something like this today:

Neil Gaiman, Sandman: Season of Mists -- first graphic novel I read since adolescence, got me back into it. Honorable mention goes to Death: Time of Your Life
Frank Miller, A Dame to Kill For -- if only because it makes for a nice complement to the movie, and was the most interesting to me, having come to Miller from the movie.
Dave McKean, Cages -- epic, just epic.
Steve Niles & Ben Templesmith, 30 Days of Night -- the artwork was so eye-openingly different -- childlike-ly crude and perfectly formed at the same time, like that twilight between the drunk and the hangover when you feel both -- that I almost missed the story. And the story is a classic -- one for the ages. Nothing new, but told afresh in a cold environment.
Masamune Shirow, Ghost in the Shell -- so much more than the movie, down to the Sergio Aragones-like small drawings, relegated to lesser importance, and thereby adding to the story rather than subtracting to it. Yes, this is where I get my tiny text, it's a manga thing.
Katsuhiro Otomo, Akira -- this one is a little more faithful to the movie, but it's so much more fleshed out than most manga, that it deserves a mention in any best-of list.
Koushun Takami and Masayuki Taguchi, Battle Royale -- devastating satire of high-school life and its inherent flaws meets Running Man. Probably my single-favorite manga mini-series. And unlike other manga series, it's a complete story arc, so you don't feel like it's open-ended once you finish. I'm going to eventually have to get the ultimate editions of this.
Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely, WE3 -- Incredible Journey meets mecha-animals and lots of bloodshed. Tearjerkingly beautiful story.

I'll have to go home and look at my shelf to see if there are any more that I'm leaving out -- I'm sure there are.

I saw its in Softback now, which brought it down a little in price. Next time I get a Borders coupon I might finally pull the trigger on this. Also, isn't David Fincher making this into a film?

*edit*

In November 2005, the message board of the Comics Journal reported that Black Hole will be adapted to film by the French director Alexandre Aja (Haute Tension). In March 2006, comics news site Newsarama reported that Neil Gaiman and Pulp Fiction co-writer Roger Avary would be adapting the screenplay, and in May 2006 Gaiman confirmed this in a Time magazine interview.[2][3]

In February 2008, Variety reported that the film will be produced by Paramount Pictures and directed by David Fincher (Se7en, Fight Club).

My idea of the ten best and my personal favorite ten would be entirely different. I didn't care too much for Maus, Jimmy Corrigan, or Watchmen but they definitely belong on a best-of list.

My favorite ten would be something like:

1. Human Diastrophism by Gilbert Hernandez
2. Blankets by Craig Thompson
3. Paul Gets A Summer Job by Michel Rabagliati
4. Bone: One Volume Edition by Jeff Smith
5. A Contract With God by Will Eisner
6. It's A Good Life, If You Don't Weaken by Seth
7. Marvels by Kurt Busiek
8. Summer Blonde by Adrian Tomine
9. Ghost World by Daniel Clowes
10. Box Office Poison by Alex Robinson

Jimmy Corrigan
Watchmen
We3
Summer Blonde
Black Hole
David Boring

All of which have already been mentioned.

Have you read anything else by Seth?

Because I love 'It's A Good Life, If You Don't Weaken' but I hated 'Clyde Fans'.

Off the top of my head, only including things collected (or originally published) in a single volume:

V for Vendetta
Enigma
Persepolis
Crecy
The Watchmen
Pride of Baghdad
We3

I'm actually just about to start Blankets.

Not sure what this means. Maybe look into some Warren Ellis stuff (Global Frequency, Transmetropolitan, etc.)?
