Why is Pitchfork obsessed with Robyn? I've been checking out their site for years and they name drop her every so often and I have no idea who she is or why they or even I should care. Am I missing something or is it just that the PM staff have a crush on her?

I think she's the cool Madonna or Britney.

If you like them, you're queer.

But if you like her, you're cool.

i read an article about her 13 years ago and was surprised i never heard her name again, and even more surprised to be hearing her name again.

what's wrong with robyn? i think she's made great strides as a singer since the mid-90s when she was pushed to the teenybopper crowd. her '05 album that just this year got a US release is pretty solid throughout.

eh, she's okay

In the U.S. she had a fairly big bubblegum hit in the late 90's called "Show Me Love".

Since then she has somehow become an indie darling. I'm not sure how or why this hype has occurred though...

find the Trentemoller remix of "Konichiwa Bitches". I have a pretty serious man crush on that one.

uh...because she had one of the biggest hits of last year in crossover terms (With Every Heartbeat)

it was on pop radio, listened to by indie kids, and was a major success in the dance world both in its original form and multiple remixes - i heard it in DJ sets of guys from NZ, Sweden, and France

the other singles off the last album were hits too, but alot of it was piggybacking on that song

She hasn't charted in the states in over a decade. Ironic to your comment, only indie people are talking about her here.

it's one of the best album's released this decade. it originally came out in 2005 but came out just two days ago in the US. solid throughout not one bad song and hope to catch her in Los Angeles next month.

Robyn is an indie darling. The only people I know who have heard of her are trendy douches.

Or, short version: you're a dumbass.

Its not just Pf. A LOT of websites/blogs were and have been talking about that record since 2005. I'm actually kinda sick of hearing about her to be honest.

I think one thing people appreciate is a)obviously the music, but b)she has her own label and kinda has clawed her way back on her own terms.

2 things:

1) I found it interesting that Teddy Bears was/were backing her up on Letterman last night.

2) She's not the same "Robyn" (actually "Robin S.") that did "Show Me Love" (which was early '90s, not late btw).

Check that - she did have a song called "Show Me Love" in 1997; I was thinking of the earlier housey one.
