MTV is reporting that the new Beck album may be stealth dropped, Raconteurs-style, sometime within the next month or so. The album would be the second Danger Mouse-produced album of 2008 to be rushed into release to avoid extended periods of leakage.

working with danger mouse is the last thing this dude should be doing...

I prophesize a rehashing of his last two albums, which were coincidentally a rehashing of his previous 5 seemingly at once.

Everything that he's done this decade has been godawful. I don't expect anything different from the new one. I love the first 2 or 3 though.

Danger Mouse is into Home Recording and/or Killing The Music Industry...

I like this summation even though I found parts of his last two to be pretty ok.

Into his slowed down Mutations mode.

I'll always be curious to hear the new Beck albums, but I've pretty much given up on him.

I predict that Beck will have a career similar to that of Neil Young: extended periods of brilliance followed by extended periods of suckitude, followed by a creative rebirth and concequent commercial rediscovery.

Dude has the talent for the long-haul career, no matter how much he may suck at any given time. (There's always something of value in whatever he puts out.)

It does seem like he's following a Neil pattern, at least in terms of his musical patterns (upbeat vs. slowed down records). Although, Neil had a full on decade-plus of brilliance while Beck, well, has not.

I've liked stuff off the last few Beck albums. He's just not as striking and unique sounding because you've heard it all before. I doubt he's gonna come around again with anything wildly different than what he's already shown, made more difficult because of just how much ground he has already covered. I mean, he's already run from hip-hop to electro to weary, acoustic ballads to funk to Latin fueled guitar tunes. I tend to think that at this point, he's run through most of what he's gonna pull out...maybe a straight ahead rocker would be about all that's left. But, he knows how to make an enjoyable record and I doubt he's gonna put much out there without at least a few high points.

Everything he's done since Mutations has disappointed me.
