I prophesize a rehashing of his last two albums, which were coincidentally a rehashing of his previous 5 seemingly at once.

I like this summation even though I found parts of his last two to be pretty ok.

where does sea change fit into this equation?

I think "Lost Cause" is one of his best songs.

I predict that Beck will have a career similar to that of Neil Young: extended periods of brilliance followed by extended periods of suckitude, followed by a creative rebirth and concequent commercial rediscovery.

It does seem like he's following a Neil pattern, at least in terms of his musical patterns (upbeat vs. slowed down records). Although, Neil had a full on decade-plus of brilliance while Beck, well, has not.

Neil was never enough of a dumbass to be a Scientologist either.

I've read about a few of his similarly-odd spiritual beliefs tho..

Like what? It would have to be shit-on-the-walls retarded to compare to Scientology.

In Beck's defense, he was raised as a scientoligist (that's terrifying), and he's been on-again off-again with it according to many interviews. While I still consider any scientologist to be bat-shit crazy, i consider this to be a degree better than tom cruise's chugging of the cool-aid.

Hell, I like stuff by some crazy fuckers like Afrika Bambaataa and Lee Perry, so I'm not about to exclude musicians based on some crazy ass, dumber than shit spiritual/religious beliefs.

Agreed. And while it's not my all-time favorite Beck song, I'm amazed at how much staying power "E-Pro" has had with me. That opening riff is so great.

Apparently he was here in Nashville last year working on his new album (I guess that's why he was at the Malkmus show, not just because he produced that album). You can hear a sample from the tracks from a Third Man Blue Series single here:
