This looks amazing and I'm tempted to click "Add to Cart" right now.

Being somewhat ignorant on internet speeds and the impact they have, any ideas how well this works with a slowish wireless DSL connection? Would my connection be so slow that movies would pause in the middle or not play properly, anything like that?

It could affect the quality of the video's resolution. With a really fast connection, it looks like you can get near-DVD quality. A slower connection could get you down into the VHS range.

Are you talking about the Soundbridge or Photobridge? If it's the Soundbridge, I'm surprised by your comment - it's arguably my favorite part of my entertainment system. I use it for several hours every day (currently listening to Sirius), and just think it's a great piece of technology.

Yeah, the Soundbridge. It served its purpose but totally got screwed up when I had to get a new router. One day it got temperamental and never recovered.

Quibbles, really, but the interface is also pretty lousy, what with the caveman LCD read-outs. It's just browsing your music with a calculator.

For me the Roku experience was almost there, but it never did everything I hoped it would. And, honestly, something about the company always seemed dodgy to me, especially after roaming through their forums for one fix or another.

The screen shots of the monitor interface for this device look pretty good, though.

exactly right.

also, you'll no longer need to burn any dvd's because they'll be there for you to watch any time you wish. no waiting, no need to buy blank dvd's.

as their collection of streaming films grows, so does yours, without any extra cost.

for $100 investment you gain thousands of films. thanks Netflix.

i'm guessing that commentaries, deleted scenes, bonus features aren't gonna be available with this, which is one reason i'll still buy dvd's.

as for right now this = OnDemand

Ahh...sounds like you had the M500 model, which had an inferior display. With the many firmware upgrades over the years and 3rd party programs available, I really have no complaints - Sirius, XM, internet radio with my computer turned off, support for just about every file type, etc...sorry you didn't have the same experience.

If you have an Xbox 360, you might want to hold off on purchasing one of these for a few months.

Quote:
Pachter: Xbox Live getting Netflix'd
Noted Wedbush Morgan analyst cites executives' repeated references to "internet enabled video game consoles" as evidence a streaming-movie deal is in the offing.
By Tor Thorsen, GameSpot
Posted May 30, 2008 5:40 pm PT

In March, Reuters reported that Netflix was surveying its customers about whether they were interested in streaming movies via the Xbox 360. The report came just weeks before the mail-based video-rental service unveiled its first set-top device to stream videos directly to subscribers' televisions. But while the device, manufactured by Bay Area consumer electronics manufacturer Roku, is garnering solid reviews, it still requires consumers to plunk down $99 in addition to their Netflix subscription service to watch videos.

Little wonder, then, that during a recent summit in San Francisco, Netflix executives were hyping up other delivery channels besides the Roku box to analysts. Analysts like Wedbush Morgan Securties' Michael Pachter, who left the event convinced that Netflix is on the verge of announcing a deal with a major console-maker.

"As we have speculated in the past, we believe that one of Netflix's partners is Microsoft," said Pachter in a note to investors. "We arrive at this conclusion based upon Netflix management repeatedly mentioning 'Internet-enabled video game consoles' [at the event]. While there are three such consoles, only one (Microsoft's Xbox 360) has a sufficiently large installed base to make sense from a streaming partnership with Netflix."

Pachter continued, "The competitive advantage of such an alliance is clear: Netflix customers who are Xbox Live members will have the ability to stream online content through their Xbox 360s directly to their televisions. The ability to do so is available without the Xbox 360, but requires a measure of technological sophistication and a high tolerance for failure."

When contacted by GameSpot, Microsoft reps repeated their favorite mantra, saying "We don't comment on rumors." A senior Netflix representative seconded the sentiment, saying only "We don't comment on speculation."

However, if a Microsoft-Netflix deal is announced in the weeks before the looming E3 Media & Business Summit, it will raise a host of questions. Would such a service require 360s equipped with hard drives? Would such a service replace Xbox Live's current film-rental service, or complement it?

why does that suck i.e. are you poor? It's only $10, you'll make that in an hour and a half (before taxes).

When I first read about this I thought it sounded kind of lame, but after trying it out I would definitely recommend it. The menus and everything are pretty cool and you don't even have to use your computer to play movies other than moving them to your queue. Anyone got any good "Watch Now" movies to recommend?

Manda Bala - An american documentary about kidnapping and corruption in Brazil. Awesome soundtrack. Awesome movie.

The Orphanage - Pretty good but not as good as some told me.

Close Encounters of the Third Kind - Just watched this on Blu Ray and was blown away again.

Bridge Over the River Kwai - Classic movie everyone should see.

Apparently a new software update allows you to stream movies in high-definition. Anyone try this yet?

Future updates are supposed to allow for streaming from other websites, such as Hulu. Neat.
