From 1-3 a.m. every Thursday night/Friday morning, "Last Call with Chad and The Jerk" takes to the air of WKUF 94.3 FM in lovely Flint, MI.

"The Jerk" in this case is my friend Ron and we go into the station each week directly from the bar at 12:30 so we can be what people listen to as they're headed home from the busiest drinking night around these parts. We'll play lots of music, bring in some guests and generally make asses of ourselves.

No Internet broadcast yet - the station just started in November and has less than a shoestring budget. But I'm working on recording the shows and then podcasting each week's debacle.

I can post our playlist for each week if you all would be interested. Let me know.
Cross your fingers for me. We have less than zero radio experience between the two of us.

I did a college showe for two years, back in the day....

Think the reception went all the way out to the student parking lot....it was a blast regardless. I have tapes of the first few shows somewhere.

defenitely post your set lists.

local stuff, indie, punk, hip hop, show tunes, metal, Tin Pan Alley... whatever mood we're in pretty much. I handle the bulk of the music while Ron handles the more entertainment-oriented parts and runs the board since he's in the theater.

Since the show is "presented by" the new section I'm in charge of at the paper, we'll mirror some of the content as far as playing a local act we profile, playing some bands that are gonna be playing Detroit or locally in the next week. I also want to start going to concerts, recording some interviews with bands and then play little chunks of them on the radio along with their music. If I can find the time to do all the things I want to with it, it should be pretty cool.

are you still employed at the newspaper? if so, can you juggle the workload, operate on little sleep/booze in the system? That sounds like good fun.

THere's only one way to find out. Thankfully, Fridays are pretty light around here and I can get most of my stuff done in advance. It'll take some getting used to, but such are the demands of the next step in my apparent quest to become the P.Diddy of mid-Michigan.

Hollah!

Yeah, my friend and I had a show in college for four years. The attitude at the station was "come for the music, stay for the people." Met a lot of great people with different tastes, and was exposed to a lot of great music. Hope you have as good a time as I did!

Congrats, Chad! That sounds like fun!

I had one of the lamest shifts ever in college... 8 am-11 am on Saturday mornings.... like anybody would be awake to listen. Luckily, I got away with playing a lot of stuff that I shouldn't have.

I look back on it as the only times I was able to 100-percent be myself and not fulfill someone else's agenda.

If I could make a living doing a free-form college show and never have to do anything else, I'd be the happiest dude in the universe.

This is so fucking qual, dude. Rip it Up! If I'm ever in Flint, on a Thursday, I'm totally gonna crash the airwaves 8)

If you're ever in Flint, on any day, I don't think any buildings will be left standing come the next sunrise.

A mere three hours to airtime. I gotta grab a catnap, pronto.
Back with the set list tomorrow.

Words of wisdom just before you go on....

In the daytime the radio's scared of me
'Cause I'm mad, plus I'm the enemy
They can't c'mon and play with me in primetime
'Cause I know the time, plus I'm gettin' mine
I get on the mix late in the night
They know I'm livin' right, so here go the mike, sike
Before I let it go, don't rush my show
You try to reach and grab and get elbowed

Word to Herb, yo, if you can't swing this
Learn the words, you might sing this
Just a little bit of a taste of the bass for you
As you get up and dance at the El-Q
When some deny it, defy it, I swing bolos
And when they clear the lane I go solo
The meaning of all of that? The media is so whack
And you believe it's true. It blows me through the roof

- I think I can recite 90% of "Nation of Millions" a cappella on demand

Radio set list coming soon.

Heh heh. And I never cranked up the transmitter so that my show would reach lower Manhatten, and I never mis-represented the transmitter readings in the log to cover up malfeasance that never happened.

I miss radio.
