trailer was before Batman. Wow. Very excited now. This looks like it might work. Still holding my breath, but I like what I see.

Trailer is somewhere on this page

Well, the fact that Dr. Manhattan actually is nude is a plus because at least it shows a dedication to graphic novel and the details. Even though the filmmakers swear that the end is going to be the same I still have my doubts. I think its just a safe way to approach any Moore adaptation.

I wasn't a big fan of Watchmen (or Alan Moore in general, if I'm being honest) but I loved the V For Vendetta film and this looks to be just as good.

The Pumpkins in the trailer automatically makes me think of the crappy Batman movies, though.

looks too good to be true. this movie would need to be at least 3+ hours long to make it work, i would think.

The trailer is insane. It's going to be an awfully long wait until March.

This week's Entertainment Weekly has the movie as its cover story. Just FYI.

This does look good. The casting of Jackie Earl Haley is perfect.

just finished reading it. you show me a guy who can't make this into an amazing film and i'll show you a guy who should never be allowed to work in the industry again. i say this simply because it really seems like a fool-proof, paint-by-numbers situation. . . shit even the story is hokey enough at the end (replete with sept 11th themes) to make it blockbuster-worthy. treat the book like the storyboard and don't fuck with the writing.

the only way to really screw it up would be the arrogance to think you could do it better by "reinventing" the story and characters and/or radically changing the tone and themes of the book.

Not sure it's that simple, but I'm cautiously optimistic.

There are a lot of aspects of that book that are medium-specific and will be lost in the translation to film.

i'm not terribly familiar with the medium. . . what do you think is tough to translate? to me, the whole thing seemed really cinematic even though there are clearly elements of dialogue that would drag on-screen.

though i'm sure there are pitfalls, when compared to adapting a novel, it seems like a relative cakewalk.

Josh just brought home all of his Watchmen which were hanging in his parents basement for years.

I'm planning an attack on them, dear god I want to read these. And that film just looks insane. Can't wait to see this.

1. it's going to have to be cut down because otherwise it'd be a 4-5 hour movie.

2. it was written long before sept. 11th.

1. clearly. . . that's why i said "time constraints notwithstanding". . . they're gonna cut the black freighter stuff entirely from what i understand (though it'll come back on dvd) and there's a lot of dr. manhattan/metaphysical stuff that won't translate well and will likely get 86'd

2. clearly. . . it came out in '86. . . i was just saying that, coincidentally, it has themes that echo 9/11 (i.e. an attack on nyc)

I'll be surprised if the Watchman fanatics are going to be happy. I think they're going to have to cut down on a lot of the character development in order to cut it down to a reasonable length, and the characters are what make this story.

I expect them to simplify the social, political and interpersonal themes and pump up the action (there really isn't much in the graphic novel).

The Owl ship looks awesome though, and they might have pulled off a believable Manhattan man. I'll see it, and likely enjoy it because I'm a sucker for superhero movies, but I think many are going to be disappointed about it and will bitch and moan for many years to come.

To do this right, they should have made a miniseries.

Finished reading it. I'll give it a "decent" rating. Not wholly impressed, but I think a lot of its concepts that were new no longer are today. I'm curious how this will work condensed into a 2 hour movie.

Will Hollywood really leave that NYC stuff in there? I don't know how they can cut it out, but they usually find a way.
