[scratches head]Never sure why I like this band, but I always find myself going back to listen again. Its brooding, low key and sometimes explosive. Sort of dark and mysterious at times not gothic perse. I can't explain it other than that.

No need to sell this one. All songs chosen from their first 5 albums and I picked the bees, 5 rockers and 5 softies. I always loved "Spike" so I head to cancel an earlier song out of the list. A great follow would be a latter career 10, which are albums I don't own.

Great mix. I've always been partial to their heavier stuff, but I love all of the songs you picked.

I want to do a Nits mix but only have a bunch of random downloaded tracks from their 30+ years. Likely will miss lots of great tracks I've never heard since I don't own full albums.

Probably worth doing though.

Edit: they're like XTC mixed with Sparks, though their style varied over the years. Never got a big fanbase in North America.

Let me know if you need any songs to make your mix. Someone recommended them to me, and I downloaded nearly everything they ever put out. I haven't listened to them enough to make a mix of my own, but I'd be happy to contribute to yours.

These are the albums I have:

1974
Adieu Sweet Bahnhof
Alankomaat
dA dA dA
Giant Normal Dwarf
Hat
Henk - Kilo
In The Dutch Mountains
Les Nuits
New Flat
Omsk
Tent
The Nits
Ting

Urk

Nits are a Dutch artpop band with shades of XTC, John Lennon, Sparks, The Lilac Time, Joe Jackson, Thomas Dolby, Harry Nilsson and many others
They've been around since '74 and have many, many albums, all in English, but few had much distribution in the States.
I have a slew of mp3s but no albums yet. These are my favorite 10 from those mp3s but I bet there are dozens more I haven't heard yet that are just as good.

Nits
    1. Radio Shoes (Giant Normal Dwarf, 1990)
    2. The Great Caruso (Doing The Dishes, 2008)
    3. Vermillion Pencil (Omsk, 1983)
    4. The Panorama Man (live) (Urk, 1989)
    5. Robinson (Alankomaat, 1996)
    6. Under a Canoe (Henk, 1986)
    7. Giant Normal Dwarf (Giant Normal Dwarf, 1990)
    8. Ivory Boy (Les Nuits, 2003)
    9. Two Skaters (In The Dutch Mountains, 1987)
    10. Soap Bubble Box (Ting, 1992)

Also, wow, Donovan, cool. I had finished putting this one together before I saw your post. I may take you up on that.

This thread just gave me diarrhea.

I even lifted off the seat a little, thanks to Newton's third law of motion.

This one should be posted by Diggity Dawg, but what the hell. And, oh mang, there's a whole lotta knObners who'll automatically hate this....

The Wildhearts

3. I Wanna Go Where The People Go
4. Sky Chaser High
5. Just In Lust

8. Dancin'
9. Bang!
10. My Baby Is A Headfuck (w/ Mick Ronson)

RIYL: riffs, singalongs, riffs, turbocharged rawk, and riffs

NB: If you're interested in the Wildhearts, they're usually way more riff-oriented and metal than this tenner suggests. I cherry-picked their most non-metal sounding songs, because I hate that shee and because this is my tenner.

The Wonder Stuff

This has 11 tracks because the first one is basically an intro. I'd compare them to early 90's British pop bands like James.

01. False Start (Never Loved Elvis)
02. Welcome To The Cheap Seats (Never Loved Elvis)
03. It's Yer Money I'm After, Baby (The Eight Legged Groove Machine)
04. Hot Love Now! (Construction For The Modern Idiot)
05. Give, Give, Give Me More, More, More (The Eight Legged Groove Machine)
06. The Size Of A Cow (Never Loved Elvis)
07. Don't Let Me Down Gently (Hup)
08. A Wish Away (The Eight Legged Groove Machine)
09. Inertia (Never Loved Elvis)
10. Circlesquare (If The Beatles Had Read Hunter)
11. Caught In My Shadow (Never Loved Elvis)
