From that list, here's some of the Vancouver area bands I can fill you in on:

Be Good Tanyas "The Littlest Birds" (although this song was written by Jolie Holland, who isn't in the band anymore)
The Black Halos "3 Sheets To The Wind" (trashy, old school punk)
Run Chico Run "Jacques and Madeleine" (From Victoria, buddies of Frog Eyes but without the pretend psychosis)
The Salteens "Time You Have Been Wasting" ('70s style AM bubblegum)
Kinnie Starr "Alright" (hip hop, pop, punk, 'n' poetry mashed together)
The WPP "Let's See A Little Less Standing Around And A Little More Jumping Outta Cakes" (spazz)

Some other bands that have an undeservedly low profile:

Richmond Fontaine "Post To Wire" (literate and complex alt.country)
Grand Champeen "One And Only" (unhinged 'n' rawkin' alt.country)
Lucero "That Much Further West" (sorta a mix between Richmond Fontaine and Grand Champeen)
The Paybacks "Bright Side" (singer Wendy Case is a total rock god)
Roman Candle "The Wee Hours" (just plain ol' good pop music)

And some old-timers who'll never let you down:

The Silos "The Only Love"
Judah Bauer/ 20 Miles "Clover"
John Doe w/Neko Case "Highway 5"
Steve Wynn and the Miracle 3 "Amphetamine"
Webb Wilder and the Nashvegans "One Taste Of The Bait"

Steve Poltz is one of my heroes, but there are few, if any, Rugburns/Poltz fans. FT, I would say Rugburns are definitely up your alley.

Oranges Band is out of Baltimore, fantastic live and good nonsense pop/rock.

I have other selections from both of these on DC++

Radcliffe, your sugestions have been top notch so far! IdiotJed recommended a couple of the same ones you did. So far, I've not been disappointed...except for one that was too 60's pop sounding to me (reminded me of someone I'd probably find on The Lawrence Welk Show). It might grow on me.

Thanks loads! Once I'm done, I'll compile a list of songs that will be part of the mix I make. If you're interested, let me knowl

Hey, I just noticed I'm an "Indie Debut".

Btw, I've downloaded over 70 songs -- easily a 2 CD mix.

AJ Croce is the son of Jim Croce. Know nothing of his music though. I saw him on some E! show with Rolan Bolan, Tal Bachmann, Jordan Zevon and Crosby's kid.

Johnny Dowd is there, he's one fucked up old dude. Some of his songs can give you nightmares. Seriously.

Hey Diamond Dave, if you want some more of either one of those [Bastards & CentroMatic] let me know, I have a full album of each.

Holy crap! This has turned out to be a 4-disc mix.

Edit: Scratch that...a FIVE disc mix!

This shit is cool, when you put it in itunes it sorts it all for you under the same album title, making retieval that much easier. Thanks for posting, Aural.
