kathleen edwards - i'm liking this a lot more than i expected to. i guess i was expecting more trad-country here for some reason, even though rod's RIYL suggested otherwise. i get more of a vibe of a female ryan adams with this. good stuff that i wouldn't have normally ever checked out...thanks.

is she hot? she sounds hot.

edit: google images is your friend. some pics say yes, some say no. i like this one though:

bill fay - bg had posted a tune of his along with a gil scott-heron tune a few years back, which prompted me to search out time of last persecution. unfortunately it was another victim of the mp3 player switchover, so i'm very glad to have this. though unlike the GSH (i'm pretty satisfied with just that tenner), i think i'm going to have to go ahead and just grab fay's first two albums.
is that demo's and outtakes album worth it? i did like the 2 inclusions here...but sometimes those albums have a lot of filler on 'em.

oh also, in regards to "be not so fearful", as you said tweedy does a cool cover that is on the i am trying to break your heart documentary.

I met her in person a few months back at a show in madison. She's hot as hell. Very Kate Hudson, but with brown curly hair. She's also a smartass, which is sexy as shit.

I think you'd be fine with just the two albums. The demos and outtakes has some pretty good songs but its not in the same league. And the 3rd studio album just isn't as good.

Just finishing up nobody's Specials mix now. Good stuff. I like the tracks on the front end of it more. I think "Rudi, a Message to You" was the only song of theirs I was familiar with beforehand (or at least the only song on here). I used to think I hated ska, but I think I just hate ska made after about 1990 or so. This is ska that I like.

I saw Peter Case open up for Jim White, and I shit you not I had to hide head while laughing (FRONT ROW SEATS) at one HORRIBLE line that was something like "the banana is the universal fruit / they tore the unions out at the root".

He also read from his new book of memoirs, and I wasn't sure he would stop. Sucked all the air out of the room. Flat out AWFUL.

Afterwards though, I looked him up. I always liked Robert Earl Keen's version of "Travelin Light", and honestly had no idear it wasn't an original. I also saw he was in the Nerves.

I still can't make myself download that tenner though. Dude did kinda smell.

Is this the same "Travelin Light" that JJ Cale wrote?

After the Plimsouls he got all Christian. Explains a lot - also, the bible thumping pretty much ruined the Plimsouls reunion album. Don't fear the tenner, though.

No, I'm pretty sure that one is on a JJ Cale album. This one is by P. Case.

Where's all the infighting today? Maybe I need to up a tenner for Corey Feldman's The Truth Movement to get things going.

All this jason molina/neil young/crazy horse talk is making me think maybe i should do a crazy horse tenner or do people already know their non-NY work?

I've got their debut, but that's it. I'd love to hear more.

I've listened to that Loudon Wainwright tenner a few times now- great stuff. billyg, I see he has a new release coming in a couple weeks, produced by Joe Henry.

I already have it on advance order. Henry produced and played on his last album -- Strange Weirdos -- which i really liked. On the new one, Henry and Loudon went through Loudon's back catalog and picked a bunch of songs to revisit with a fuller band sound. So for anyone who likes his songwriting but thinks the tenner is a bit too sparse or folky, the new one would be a great pickup.

Henry also produced the new Rodney Crowell coming out in September. Busy guy apparently.

Do you have enough Crowell to do a tenner? I only have Fate's Right Hand

If you liked that, may I suggest this:

This Are Two Tone

Specials, Selector, Madness, English Beat...pretty much the best of the early 80s ska revival. A great starting point for the era and style.

Yeah i probably do. I think i have 5 or 6. To be honest though, I'm fighting burnout on these tenners. If this thread lasts long enough maybe i'll get to it but I think after this weekend, I need to take a break.

I'd be interested in hearing a Rodney tenner. The only song I know really well by him is a more recent song, "Earthbound", which I kind of like. Actually, I might know more by him, I just probably don't realize it.

pearl jam - back when spin the black circle came out as a single, i declared i was done with pj. pretty foolish, i guess as i really enjoyed this set. i might need to check out the albums i've missed out on. thanks again DJ.

edit: and since i lost my singles soundtrack years ago, it's damn good to have "state of love and trust" back!

Just getting around to billyg's Kevin Welch tenner- never heard this guy before, but enjoying it a lot. His voice reminds me of T-Bone Burnett.
