Our (meaning every Atlanta junkie's) lawyer Uncle Brian used to be a P.D. for the city of Atlanta. Between murder, rape, arson, and robbery, Uncle Brian spent most of his day defending bums on public urination/defecation charges.

Uncle Brian is rock and roll though. He doesn't buy records released after 1973 and his house feels like a tribute to Swinging London circa 1966.

Hey in Atlanta during the 1996 we gave homeless people free bus tickets to any other city. We were highly criticized, but anyway we can crap on Florida (which I heard was the #1 destination) is fine by me!

Awesome. That must've been one smelly bus, though.

The only two incorporated cities in my county have a combined population of 25,000. Any act of extreme meanness or kindness really stands out.

I've been to your town (see jam bands thread). Nice people, very reminiscent of the South honestly. Friendly, but they would have cut my head off and thrown my body over the Wilson dam at a moments notice......

I wish we were mean enough to send the homeless in LA back to the city that they came from. That's one drawback of being a huge city with great weather is all the already homeless that come here & the cities that give them the 1 way Greyhound ticket to make it possible.

we have a big problem with this - maybe we are too nice. there are so many 16-20 year old runaways here, walking around with their pit bulls, dred locks, and studded leather - it is insane.

If we're talking a drunk petting zoo for the entertainment and education of the kids, I'm right there with ya.

Yeah, I suppose if I were to hit rock bottom I'd probably head to LA.

Yup, with little coin-op feed dispensers, so the drunks can lick the feed out of kids' hands through the fence.

Limitless potential here.

My wife always has to make a snarky comment whenever we come across a fat homeless person.

Just in case you hadn't considered the prospect, many of them got to Atlanta in the first place with a complimentary bus ticket from several Florida municipalities. Been going on quietly for years.

Also, I'm a little surprised Las Vegas wasn't higher on the list. Mayor Oscar has Metro rousting the bums here like a motherfucker.

Baltimore didn't make this list. Huh. I'm betting it has nothing to do with Mayor O'Malley proclaiming it "The Greatest City In America". No, I think it's probably because sometimes it's hard to tell the homeless from the residents.
