Sounds really good so far. Far less confrontational than God's Money, in the sense that the vocals are restrained and melodic, as is the instrumentation. It is pretty remarkable first listen.

I really liked God's Money. I was working at a record store at the time and it stood out in the sea of indie rock.

Looking forward to hearing this.

Liking this a lot. One of the more reliable bands out there IMO.

I'm listening to it now. John Mulvey was right.

"Saint Dymphna is a kind of super-produced, precision-tooled, pop and dancefloor-primed rebooting of tribal psych. I’ve been playing it all week, and the constant ebb and flow makes it quite tricky to identify separate tracks. But on the other hand, it is a record that lends itself to a great landslide of references.

So amidst all the contrasting beats, from the fervid drum circles to programmed sputters that recall a goth-tinged Timbaland, various bits of “Saint Dymphna” make me think of contemporary New York bands like Outhud, or a friendlier Black Dice. There are elements of Bjork, quite late Can, Yoko Ono, and a fantastic grasp of how variegated global rhythms can mix with ultra-modern western electronica that makes me think of the Sun City Girls on DFA (or, God help me, the sort of fusion that Transglobal Underground always strived for).

The outstanding track, though, is called “Vacuum”, and features a prominent melody that seems to closely echo the siren riff from My Bloody Valentine’s “I Only Said”, hazily reconfigured over a backing that’s somewhere between ambient dub and kosmische synthprog. The hyper-creative drift of “Saint Dymphna” as a whole is pretty gripping, but this one’s the keeper."

The real version sounds much better than the magically dubbed cassette copy I've had for a few months. This record is absolutely stellar. So much good music this year, it's ridiculous.

For me, it always comes in torrents at the end.

As with other things.

Excited about this. That is all.

Just found out they are playing here with Growing next month. Two of my absolute favorites at a little 150 person club in the Tucson winter. Most excited about a show I've been in a long time.

i couldn't make it through the growing album and i like some of their old things (tho it seems i keep liking them less with each new release), maybe i'll try the new one again.

Just a FYI:

Quote:
The good people at WFMU recorded everyone’s live set from ATP New York a little over a week ago. As is usually the case Growing played a stunner and we are pleased to say the entire set is available for download as an MP3.

Because of the sort-of embossed CD art, this CD gets stuck in my car CD player. I listened to it once, was fairly annoyed by it, then had to remove it with a pair of tweezers from my car's CD player. Let's just say it won't be getting a 2nd chance.

Gang Gang Dance or Growing? I don't think the Growing CD is embossed. If it's GGD, do you have a promo copy or something?

I agree that the new Growing album is good. If you've liked their last couple, I don't see why you'd have any trouble listening to this one.

Still holding out for the release of Saint Dymphna. The way time's been getting away from me lately, I'm sure it'll be here before I know it.
