Don't necessarily have to be the bands that put out your favorite records. Some bands/artists just have that thing that make you keep coming back for more.
Why?
Sometimes it overlaps, sometimes not.

Mine:
•Jonathan Richman (seen him 7 times or so. Too damn charming.)
•Flavor Channel (a local band that just kept pulling me back -- probably more than 10 times. Their only full-length was pretty disappointing)

I'll probably think of more.

They're up there for me too but honestly, even though I haven't seen them in about 7 years, it's Widespread Panic. Probably 20 times that I can remember. I was a full blown Spreadhead there for a while.

DBT is somewhere around half that.

Also, there should be a distinction here between "Favorite" and those bands I've seen the "Most". I've seen Panic the most but they're not my favorite live band. At least not anymore.

I think it's something like:

Headstones - 6
The Lowest Of The Low - 5
Stars - 5
Modest Mouse - 3

I don't know if there's anyone else I've bothered to see more than twice. That's usually enough for me.

The original?! Wow, that's awesome. Wish I could say the same...

The 90's Allmans is one of my top - 5-6 times. I saw Skynyrd 5-6 times as well during the same period (I was in high school).

Since 2000, I've seen the Old 97's 5 times I think which is probably the most of any band.

Bands I've seen the most basically consist of local bands no one knows of that I can go check out for 5 bucks or less on a regular basis. I don't splash the cash enough to see big touring bands a bunch of times.

i've seen les savy fav at least a dozen times, with probably 75% of those being the same setlist consisting of go forth and inches, which has been satisfying each and every time i hear it.

i've also seen radiohead 8 times, also consistently excellent.

forgot about the 10 times I've seen sonic youth.

can't count how many times I've had the displeasure of seeing Cake.

I've seen grandaddy a bunch too (probably around 6-7 times) but they are nowhere near one of my favorite bands, though I do like them...they were usually just playing something that I was working or opening for someone else

bands I like that I've seen 3+ times offhand: mogwai, the national, super furry animals, superchunk, portastatic, doves, REM, Yo La Tengo, Ted Leo, The Walkmen (last friday's show was amazing), stars, nada surf, clap your hands say yeah, the polyphonic spree, destroyer, american analog set, arcade fire, wilco, white stripes, superdrag, the strokes, stereolab, sloan, death cab...a bunch more.

I'll leave the bands I book off the list:

DBT - at least 15 times
MMJ - probably around 10
Lake Trout - around 10 times
Phish - only about 8 or 9 times
TV on the Radio - 5 - 6 times
Bobby Bare Jr. - 6 or 7 times
Wilco - probably 8 - 9 times

Many, many bands 3 - 5 times

No shit? I know those guys. They've toured with a couple of my acts a few times. Surprises me since I don't remember you ever mentioning them.

DBT tonight for shit, I guess the 17th time (plus Halloween 2008 w/ Hold Steady, which hadn't happened when this thread was first posted)

pearl jam I guess 9 times, skunk anansie maybe 7 times, dozens of bands around 3 times.
once - in order to see the decemberists for the first time - I went to this cake show. my goodness how cake sucked... I went home after 3 or 4 songs. the support act was at least a million times better.

They are a really fun live band -- nothing more, nothing less. I don't think i've seen them in a couple of years but i used to go see them everytime they came to LA which used to be every couple of months.

I think i made a thread about them when they started touring more nationally a couple of years ago but I don't talk about them much because it fell on deaf ears and I wouldn't call them anything close to a favorite on record.

How have they toured with that you book?

I've honestly stopped counting. For non-local bands I'd have to think about it as nothing is coming to mind. I've seen most bands I'm into 2-3 times.
