30 or 40 bars in a downtown that small is a bit overwhelming when you first see it. It's like Mecca for black-out drunks.

just wait until they see the prices!

What, you mean I can drink premium beer for the price of cheap shit back at home? Just tap my fucking veins!

You're right about that! I about fell over the first time I tried to order a PBR in another city and the bartender asked me for $3.

After much searching, I have found exactly one bar in the south end that will

1. Sell me a high life draft, and
2. Only charge me $2.50 for it.

Standard price for any decent beer is $4.50 or $5. Not uncommon to see $6 for a pint of something really good, or more. Bud / Bud Lite etc is $4.

Shit wait, it's not high life, I forgot, it's pbr. More than 3 and I get a wicked hangover, too. But 3 beers for $7.50...

There's a solution to this:

Never sober up.

As to what TinyE said about "outsiders" talking about how awesome they hear Athens is. Yes, just like Austin, both towns have this myth surrounding them about being creative oasis' in otherwise status quo states. Some things about both towns live up to the hype.

I do have the ideal work setup for a functioning alcy. Public transport (no dui), office door to shut (no "he must still be drunk" smell)...
