I've been listening to these guys all the time lately. They've had up on their myspace page and on In The Red's site that a new album is coming this year but I can't get confirmation that it'll be before the end of the year or early '09.

So far so meh. It's not bad, but it definately sounds more phoned-in than Easy Tiger. I just went through all of it in a row, and can't remember a single hook or chorus. Perhaps it will grow.

That's exactly the analysis I need to hear to prevent me from buying this. This is the side of Adams that bores me to death.

I listened to it once all the way through and I'm the same way. There were some cringeworthy lyrics on there (Cobwebs??). I had it on while I was doing work so I'll give it another chance but yeah, first impression, meh.

And Cobwebs was probably the only one that stood out for me music-wise (not lyrically). I smell "Contract obligation."

While this album discussion probably warrants its own thread rather than cluttering up this one, I actually liked Cardinology more on first pass than the previous few. It suited me fine for early morning listening.

The Pretenders: Break Up The Concrete

The best thing I've heard from the Pretenders in a long, long time. This one has a rootsy feel with some country influence and lots of rockabilly riffs and even a little take on that good ol' Bo Diddley rhythm on the title track. Boots of Chinese Plastic kicks the disc off in style and Chrissie's in fine voice as usual. More of an edge than what she's given us of late. If you're a Pretenders fan, you'll want this.

Amazon has copies for 49¢.
I love this record (that many of you will most-likely hate). Still, for that price, you can't go wrong.
