I finally watched that last Indiana Jones movie.

What a thoroughly mediocre flick. It was funny and incredibly revealing watching the bonus feature where Spielberg was talking about how uninterested he was in doing it and how George Lucas is the one who came up with the whole "interdimensional aliens" thing. Spielberg seems like he was pretty unenthusiastic and somewhat apathetic about the whole process. It really shows in the final product.

Totally agree. And is it me, or was the scene at the end eerily similar to the first X-Files movie?

Prepare to be jealous because I get to see I Think We're Alone Now on Friday, then Bunnyland, along with Fat Man Walking on Saturday.

Stevie - I can't believe how different the trailer is from the film. Basically take everything in the trailer and add one key element which is an arrest for child molestation. It's intense to say the least. Not only do you have the whole child molestation issue but the mom abandoning and abusing Stevie as a child, but also Steve James (Hoop Dreams) has this whole inner battle if he should actually be filming this and is he partly responsible for the way Stevie turned out.

Katyn - Really depressing drama about the Katyn massacre in which 12,000 Poles either members of the intelligentsia or officers in the army were killed by Russian soldiers in 1939. Focuses more on the families back home and how people deal with the spin the Russians put on it blaming the Nazi's after Russia takes over Poland.

Lemon Tree -Same director, Eran Riklis, and lead actress, Hiam Abbas, as The Syrian Bride but unfortunately not as good. I thought a lot of the cliches and heavy handedness that was avoided in Syrian Bride weren't side stepped in Lemon Tree. Still a very good film about the absurdity of Israel and it's border polices.

Tricks - Another Polish film, this one however is really light hearted and funny film about a young boy who thinks he spots his estranged father at the local train station which sets off a series of events. Almost more of a style you expect from the Czech New Wave. The child, who pretty much steals the film, and his teenage sister are always tempting fate with little tricks which makes the film more entertaining and quirky.

Ballast - A starker entry in the neo realism style than the other Sundance darling, Frozen River. Both films are really good. Frozen River being more of a thriller and Ballast being a slow burning character study.

Sonic Mirror - Honestly I thought this was a doc on Jazz drummer Billy Cobham. But it ends up taking this detour to a facility in Switzerland for kids with autism and shows how the patients are treated with sound. Really different than what I expected. It also spends a lot of time in Brazil with an academy of kids who spend every Sunday for a year just prepping to play the drums at carnivale.

The Wrecking Crew - This is about the studio musicians who pretty muched played on any great record to come out of LA in the 60's. I mean seriously, name an artist in LA at the time and chances are there's a connection. They were the default musicians Spector called, the actual musicians on Pet Sounds, the list goes on and on. It's done by the son of one of the musicians and is pretty much a love letter to the dad and the accomplishments of these unheralded artists.

That's probably his second-best flick, right after Take The Money And Run.

deception - kind of lame but i got it for free. lead character made one of the dumbest moves i've ever seen at the end of the movie.

You didn't see which version of the soundtrack you heard did you? There is a fairly badass one done by a Kronos Quartet-esque band on one of the versions floating around TCM. I have a DVD with a less than stellar soundtrack. I always forget to see if the soundtrack from that band is available to play at the same time.

Incredible Hulk

Not bad. I think I pretty much liked it about the same as Ang Lee's version. It's been a long time since I've seen that, but I still think the CGI on the Hulk was way better before. In this one he was way too shiny and cartoony. I liked how the story kept things light in this one, though, and moved along at a good pace. The Abomination ended up being a very typical modern movie monster, and Tim Roth was pretty unimpressive. Still, I didn't find myself really cringing at anything or getting bored.

The Orphange

I thought this was great. I didn't realize that it wasn't del Toro who directed this but that he actually was the producer. I actually think this was a better movie than Devil's Backbone. Just very skillfully and artfully done and very, very sad.

Foot Fist Way

Terrible. Not funny at all. Just an awful, worthless movie. The worst thing I've watched in a really long time.

I tried to psyche myself up to watch I'm Not There on Friday, but I just couldn't do it. I think I'm just gonna sell it on ebay.

Finally watched this and was pleasantly surprised by it. I enjoyed it right up until Richard Gere appeared and then I nearly shut it off and went skeet shooting with the disc. I inhibited my good taste and common sense enough to finish it, but it derailed the movie for me. That being said, I think I'll hang on to the movie.

dance of the dead - it was okay but i think i would've enjoyed it more when i was 16.

the happening - it wasn't as bad as i thought it was going to be. just kind of a silly idea and probably was mark wahlberg's worst performance.

quarantine - almost as good as [rec] except jennifer carpenter became really, really annoying in the final third of the movie and i couldn't wait until she got killed off. there was a pretty cool kill in it though that wasn't in the original.

jack brooks monster slayer - pretty entertaining and goofy, tho they really shouldn't have compared the lead character to ash from evil dead in the making of because there'll never be another ash.

pathology - kind of awesome. reminded me a little bit of flatliners but way gorier and dirtier.

88 minutes - of my life wasted.

a lizard in a woman's skin - i guess this is supposedly one of fulci's better giallos but i thought it was boring. i somehow missed the dog experiment scene though.

I don't think The General is much longer than that so you probably saw most of it

The Strangers - Waaaaay better than I thought it would be. I even bought it and downloaded the soundtrack. The only thing I didn't like about it was the ending. I wanted a fucking explanation. I need to check out "Them".

The Incredible Hulk - Saw it in the theatre. Bought the dvd.
Love it.

This week is Horrorfest at Fryxell's. (not to be confused with Whorefest)

so far..

The Ruins (ok, expected more from Scott Smith)
The Descent (excellent, very cool ending)
Hatchet (very funny and full of gore)
Vacancy (pretty good)
The Strangers (hated it - not sure why they just didn't find better places to hide)
Slither (very good)
House of 1000 Corpses (weak story, cool visuals)

up next: Session 9, Pulse, 30 Days of Night, and Rob Zombie's Halloween

I'll probably end up watching Pulse since I rented it already (it was free). Can you suggest something else? I've made my way through that horror movie thread and it's exhausting.

Haha I watched this last week too. It was indeed awful, but I knew that going in. This is pretty funny, from AV Club's "I Watched This On Purpose" feature:
