feel free to use this thread to express your appreciation for dustin pedroia, your american league mvp.

even those of you who, for unfathomable reasons, do not care for my beloved red sox have to like a guy who outplays the entire league at half their size. the guy is dwarfed by heidi watney in postgame interviews.

Man had a good year. By far the best player on his team and helped carry them when Manny was being an ass and David Ortiz was hurt. That's the definition of an MVP. It's a worthy choice as the man had an all around great year. The man is almost certainly the best 2nd baseman in the AL right now, and 2nd best in all of baseball.

And I hate the Red Sox and can say all that without any remorse. Can't help but wonder how many more votes Carlos Quentin would've gotten if he hadn't broken his hand and missed nearly all of September.

Ridiculous that J-Ham didn't finish higher than 7th. Should have been top five.

maybe if he'd had some production in the second half of the season, he would've.

comparing rollins and pedroia is funny, at least as far as their MVP stats go

dustin pedroia won the MVP based on a two week stretch in August.

my choice would have been grady sizemore.

also kinsler had the same year as pedroia, but played 40 less games, this award was his to lose for sure until the injury,

a 2 week stretch in august? wow. well it's a shame that the sportswriters of america don't know as much about it as you do, but maybe you could please explain how a player could finish .002 short of a batting title after only 2 strong weeks.

oh sorry, a batting title, well that does define MVP.

im just saying, he had this run at the end of august where he hit like 4 or 5 homers in ten games and drove in 12 runs and all of a sudden everyone was talking about him. if you put what pedroia did against what others did it looks pretty pedestrian

pedroia: .326/.376/.493 118 R, 54 2B, 17 HR, 83 RBI, 50 BB, 20 SB
sizemore: .268/.374/.502 101 R, 39 2B, 33 HR, 90 RBI, 98 BB, 38 SB
kinsler: .319/.375/.515 102 R, 41 2B, 18 HR, 71 RBI, 45 BB, 26 SB
quentin: .288/.394/.571 96 R, 26 2B, 36 HR, 100 RBI, 66 BB, 7 SB
arod: .302/.392/.573 104 R, 35 2B, 33 HR, 103 RBI, 65 BB, 18 SB
youkilis: .312/.390/.569 91 R, 43 2B, 29 HR, 115 RBI, 62BB, 3 SB
mauer: .328/.413/.451 98 R, 38 2B, 9 HR, 85 RBI, 84 BB, 1 SB

i think you could make a case for quentin as he carried the sox for half the season, i probably would have voted: 1. sizemore, 2. youkilis, 3. quentin, 4. cliff lee, 5. pedroia

not saying he didnt deserve to be there but it seems like the writers wanted to take an opportunity to make this the most INSPIRATIONAL player award

while you are at that, explain to me how striking out 52 times compared with your choice's 130 fails to impress you.

lol at Quentin at #3...MVP1stHalf

Suppose by that logic Manny was the NL MVP

I have Youks, Pedroia, and Mauer very close and any of the 3 are MVPs in my mind. Morneau and Sizemore are a step down at 4 and 5

why exactly are strikeouts worse than weak ground balls or lazy fly pops? His OBP probably means a bit more than avg and strikeout totals. Not to mention OPS.

I think Pedroia definitely deserved consideration and i have no heartburn with him winning. The AL had a down year.

I somehow doubt the AL had a down year simply because there was no standout.

To me a great example is looking at how much Manny ate up NL pitching... You can always look at how much better the AL does than the NL in interleague matchups, or the All Star results, but this really cememented in my mind the huge disparity in pitching from one league to the other. Sabathia is another example that works well

Looking at offensive numbers and considering the positions involved (to exclude ARod and Milton Bradley), it's a neck-and-neck race between Grady and Dustin. If you then define value as the player's worth to his respective team, Grady gets it.

Dustin had a great year and certainly deserves props. Mauer for the #3 vote.

I agree with the Sketcher here. This is all subjective and also why MVP awards are a popularity contest or a what have you done for me lately award. Hell, as I recall Pedroia wasn't even the MVP on his own team for the first half of the season. I remember all the talk being about Youklis.

I think Pedroia had a great year and I take nothing away from him but I also think the Sox still finish ahead of the Yankees in the wild card without him. I also think so many awards have been won based on what a player did during a small 2-3 week window late in the year. Chipper Jones abusing the Mets in September in '99 comes to mind.

This is reminiscent of the year Terry Pendleton won MVP.

because strikeouts are never productive outs.
