I've got a friend whose parents are missionaries in China. He's pretty cool. They convert about 1 or 2 people a year because they would be arrested if anyone knew what they were doing. I think Radcliffe is Minister of the Interior.

Chris, THIS IS GROUND ZERO, BUBBA!!

I seriously almost spit fucking coffee all over myself.

Strangely, I think this harks back to the original meaning, and not its current usage, eh, Bloor? Just a coincidence that these peopla are MISSIONARIES (a front if I've ever seen one) and in China....Proof that you can't make this shit up.

ah, there are times when i must remember the irony inherent in being a beleaguered evolutionary biologist in an evangelical christian family.

my dad loves missionary work, and puts a lot of time and effort into supporting it. he is a stateside representative of several American missionaries in Russia.

me, i think that it is often misguided cultural imperialism practiced by well-meaning . . . mongers. i grew up around missionaries - hell, my parents considered themselves missionaries from the Bible South to Heathen New England when I was a child. I think a lot of these people have trouble with the whole "mote/plank" concept, if you know what I mean.

I could write quite a lot about what I think about this subject, but I think that I'll hold off.

Frankly, it surprised me that none of the ATL boyz ever Google image-searched for monger, but I am glad I can be of service.

You know what's really cool though? This was the second or third image showing on the first results screen. It must be pretty well associated with mongery then.

Perverts.

But Monty, this dude Image is on the first page, and though that family has the name and all, this guy is OBVIOUSLY a monger.

If I ever form an indie rock Christian band, this will be the name. We'll open for The Waiting and the drummer will say "fuck" in an interview with CCM magazine. I'll mention how Jesus was a rebel a lot.

This is almost exactly how it sounds when my autistic son asks to change the channel so he can watch "Ed, Edd & Eddy."
