I wouldn't buy it, but the live disc seems like it would be cool.

I haven't said this about a Pitchfork review in a long time (if ever), but...
that was an excellent review that I really enjoyed reading.

And, I need to replace my old vinyl anyway; this sounds like the time.

haha - this was one of the only Pitchfork reviews I've read in months. That perfect score made it necessary to see how they backed it up - and I don't think they did.

Still, this album has been screaming out for remastering ever since the advent of compact discs. And that live set would be a sweet listen, even just for the sake of nostalgia.

Looks like it just came out today in stores.

I love this album on so many levels but the album version of "Radio Free Europe" isn't anywhere near as good as the early Hib Tone single version.

Holy shit did it ever. That cd is definitely one of the worst sounding in my collection. If I can find this at a reasonable price I'll be getting it.

While I much prefer Reckoning, this is still a great album...and yes, it needs a re-mastering along with the rest of the I.R.S. Catalog...those CDs sound TERRIBLE...

My old vinyl copy will do me just fine. Still, one hell of an album that I've pulled out countless times over the years. Hate to sound like a stereotype, but these guys really did their best work early on. This album and Reckoning will always be what REM sounds like to me.

Didn't think about the remastering aspect. I haven't listened to my copy of Murmur in so long that I'd forgotten how weak it sounded. Maybe this'll be worth picking up after all...

But how lame is it that they didn't include a remastered Chronic Town in the package? It's really the only part of Dead Letter Office worth listening to.

A lot of the early life stuff I've heard is usually good: in fact its pretty surprising how good they are.

I bought a vinyl murmur-era live bootleg for my dad a few years ago - I wonder if this is the same concert.

from what i've read it is a widely-available bootleg from that era, so chances are it's that show....

Am I the only one that think Murmur is way to overrated.

DEFINITELY buying this. Murmur is one great record where a remastering will do wonders. Really looking forward to hearing this.

Yeah, Stephen Deusner is typically a great read. Not too pretentious and is usually spot-on with his critique/references/descriptions.

I'd like to see that. Now that they're with Universal, I could see this happening with the IRS catalog. Something I could get excited about.

Also, this would be killer - "Perfect Circle: Athens Bands Play R.E.M.'s Murmur"

reasonable price is the key. is this a cool, cheap (12.99 or less) reissue, or one of those fancy shmancy 25 dollar ones?

i don't think they are overrated, but I think they are very much a time and place band. I don't see current or future generations geeking out over them.
