the whole idea that you have to win to stay in the upper eschelon leagues, and the movement of teams, is the coolest thing in the world. i wish that american sports had this as well.

But then your beloved Bengals would have been in the CFL years ago.

I think the NFL could pull this off -- add about twenty more teams, in Salt Lake, Little Rock, Portland (ME or OR), etc., and break the league into three seventeen team divisions (putting the top 17 from the current NFL in the premiership, the bottom seventeen in the first division, and the expansion teams in the second), then have twelve teams moving about every year (bottom three in premier to first, top three in first to premier and bottom three to second, top three in second to third).

For MLB to do it, though, they'd have to break the contracts between the thirty franchises and the sundry and various AAA, AA, A, and Rookie ball affiliates. And, I could go for that, but I don't see MLB, even for having "jumped into the deep end" with wild-cards and inter-league play, totally scrapping their long-time player development track for a Euro-style divisional system.

I hate Arsenal but I still love Henry. That guy is ridiculous. He has been screwed out of the FIFA player of the year title several times!

(even tho i really wanted to hate them) was surprisingly impressed with the US team last world cup. they had a lot of moxie.

You're darn tootin' they did. I was at the Mexico-US game in Korea. I cried. I doubt they'll make it to the quarters again, but seeing them beat Portugal (even on a fluke couple goals) was something special. I'm getting verklempt - if that's how it's spelled.

germans (and increasingly, italians) are pretty much the worst. well drilled football is so fuckign boring. like an army unit. zzzzz. (that said both those teams are way more stylish than the english). we need new forms of moxie to break down defences all over the world. like that ronaldinho goal, i mean, but who could repeat that. it'll be funny if the south americans beat the new european champions once again. that or we need to make the goals wider ;)

Sorry I just have to register my disgust at the Thierry Henry worship. I mean he's a good player, a very good player but he's not a Top Ten Striker in the World never mind the best player in the World or Europe.

He was a complete flop in Serie A (where unlike the Premiership they actually know how to defend) and has done very little at the highest international level with France or in club competition with Arsenal.

In 20 or even 10 years from now no-one is even going to mention Henry in the same breath as Marco Van Basten or Ferenc Puskas or Gerd Muller or whomever, so just stop all this hype around Premiership players designed to sell subscriptions to Rupert Murdoch.

who's in your top 10 dude?

i agree with you tho, he hasn't done much for france (and falls a bit short in the champions league too) but he's still a abslt gun when he's on (and farrr more verstale striker/overall player than say, hernan crespo for instance)

and i still think the above has a lot to with how france play him and trezeguet. and as with arsenal.. just not been cut out for elite-tier european soccer (as are almost all premier league teams)

that's pretty sweet record regardless:

yeah, i agree with henry. when hes on, he can be a force, but hes very inconsistent, and doesnt really show up in the big games for france or arsenal in the champions league. not to mention hes pretty useless in the air with his headers. my moneys on ac milan for the champs league this year, theyre just too good.
