while you are at that, explain to me how striking out 52 times compared with your choice's 130 fails to impress you.

why exactly are strikeouts worse than weak ground balls or lazy fly pops? His OBP probably means a bit more than avg and strikeout totals. Not to mention OPS.

I think Pedroia definitely deserved consideration and i have no heartburn with him winning. The AL had a down year.

because strikeouts are never productive outs.

Really - What if you take 10 pitches and strike out?

Also, hard to make 2 outs with a strikeout, much easier with a groundout.

I agree, strikeouts are vastly overrated as a problem. OBP is usually telling

still not productive in moving the runner over, if there is one. but at least it makes the pitcher work

52 strike outs is Tony Gwynn-esque

smart for the Sox, but why'd he do that?
He should have asked for only 4 years, this way he could cash in on his free agency homecoming....

Probably good time to maximize dollars now than wait and risk it. Probably doesn't want to play for $600 K next year. Good move on both their parts.

Not sure about this part from ESPN

"That it got done this quickly shows how much Pedroia loves playing in Boston, and that he prefers playing to dickering over arbitration and free-agent dollars. His favorite phrase is "it's all about winning."

Dickering? Really.

that sounds like some dick sucking good will....

it makes great sense for him to do it while he is still under the RedSox control the next 4 years....they can pay him whatever they want during that period....7.5 million is good scratch...

but coming off a rookie of the year into an MVP season, if this kid is the real deal....he is losing out on two years of really cashing in, unless he re-negotiates....

oh well.

there's no asking for 4 years, because the sox already controlled his contract until 4 years from now. he defers free agency for 2 years, gets a ton of money and doesn't have to stress over performance or injury. it's win/win. it's also becoming very common in baseball right now.

Pedroia’s brother facing molestation charges

WOODLAND, Calif. (AP)—The older brother of AL MVP Dustin Pedroia is facing child molestation charges.

Woodland police say 30-year-old Brett Pedroia was booked at the Yolo County jail Jan. 9 on two counts of oral copulation and lewd acts with a child under age 14.

He was released on $50,000 bail and a court hearing was set for Feb. 4.

The crimes allegedly took place four years ago, but the alleged victim only recently told one of his parents, who contacted authorities.

A Gold Glove second baseman for the Boston Red Sox, Dustin Pedroia followed up his 2007 AL Rookie of the Year Award by winning league MVP honors last year.

It wasn’t known whether Brett Pedroia is represented by an attorney. The Yolo County district attorney’s office didn’t return telephone messages.

I went to college about 10 miles from Woodland. I can definitely see how molos infest the place.
