Purple Rose of Cairo
[img][650:360]http://www.nicksflickpicks.com/f100purprose.jpg[/img]

movie two of my blind purchase of three Woody Allen films.

I liked it. Like a lot of Woody i found it very slow, verging on boring, but always keeping me interested and the characters resonating after the movie is over.

I love that movie. When I was a kid, like 8 years old, i snuck upstairs after I was supposed to be in bed and found my uncle craig watching this. I think in retrospect he was trying to smoke pot, but he let me stay up and watch this and Prizzi's Honor with him, and it seemed like I was being allowed to do something very adult by staying up this late and watching these sophisticated movies. when he died a few years later i realized that that's probably my favorite memory of him. I guess what I'm saying is that this movie gets graded on a curve with me.

i saw punisher war zone tonight. it's no way on par with the dark knight or iron man but i'd say it's easily the best of the punisher movies. it's really bloody, even though most of it looks cgi-ish. soap was hilarious and i liked the nod to tim bradstreet.

Loved it. I'm not a fan of Kaufman (until now), but I'm a big fan of Philip Seymour Hoffman. Walking out of the theater, I heard the people in front of us telling someone "that was the worst movie ever made" repeatedly...the woman behind us told her friend "Wow, you really know how to pick them."

just watched this last night. more of a supernatural thriller rather than horror--unlike the remake. really creepy and some amazing sequences.

when i first got into asian horror i'd pick up shit like this, the big tartan asia extreme type movies (granted, some of them are good)

but then i'd watch them. and they were cheesy as hell and as dumb as most modern american horror films, which is probably why these particular asian horror films are the ones targeted for american remakes.

then i watched shit like save the green planet, and more takashi miike (he's gone a little too weird lately, not as gory/fucked up, just completely weird) and now i'm into ebola rape human hamburger, tying your boss up in the basement and shaving the skin off of his feet kind of movies.

Save the Green Planet is one of the worst movies I've ever seen.

A Knight's Tale: Pointless and way too long. It was so cheesy how they they integrated modern songs into the particular era. I actually like most of the actors in this, but they have nothing to work with.

The Man Who Wasn't There: I picked this up on a whim, and it delievered. Billy Bob Thornton in particular was brilliant.

the original? granted, it's kind of a one-trick pony, but the movie is pretty stunning from a visual/atmospheric standpoint and the scene with the "spirits" are downright creepy imho.

Comedians of Comedy - I'd already heard a lot of Patton Oswalt's material and some of Galifianakis's, but this was still pretty great. Not gut-bustingly funny throughout, but it had it's moments and was just generally a good road doc.

Hellboy II - An OK movie, all in all, not really that much better (if any) than the first one. The creatures and effects in it were great, though. I really loved the designs of the "Chancellor", Krauss, Wink, and that demon thing with the flat fan-shaped face and eyes on its wings.

It was pretty good.

Finally saw Indiana Jones / Crystal Skull. Holy FUCK that was terrible. Yes, even for what it was supposed to be.

I watched 2/3s of In Bruges yesterday before getting called out to a meeting.

Note to self - always tivo the movies you wanna watch

Pretty good film, IMO.

It was awesome, I left right after the Beason/Fiennes scene with the "You take that back about my kids bein cunts" scene.

I gotta catch it again.

I thought it was one of the better movies I 've seen in a while.

Just saw it yesterday and liked it lots. Friend gave the DVD as a birthday present, but I was able to catch it with some friends at Pinewood. Fiennes and Farrell are both phenomenal.

I had sorta drawn the bar mentally at where I felt it should've come in, given the reviews and feedback and whatnot. And it slid head and shoulders below that bar, without even ducking. CGI gophers? CGI monkeys helping fight russians? what. the. fuck.

This was better than I expected, but by no means stellar.

Ditto, this was a great film, despite Colin Farrell being in it.
