I'll buy everyone on this board a Dr. Pepper if they release an album this year, just kidding, but all I can hear in my head at this time is Marge Simpson saying "It ain't gonna happen, Homer".

Magnet has started a Wrens watch...

...............
Wrens Watch, Dec. 22, 2008
December 22, 2008
We’ve been fans of New Jersey’s finest since even before their first album came out back in 1994, so let’s just say we’re used to sitting around waiting for them to take their sweet-ass time putting out new music. (Three albums in more than 14 years makes the Wrens about as prolific as Boston, which is kind of like being as tall as Gary Coleman.) Given their propensity for not even updating their website (the second most recent entry is promoting a Charles Bissell solo show on September 4 to raise money for Obama’s bid for the White House), we decided to take matters into our own hands to keep fans up to date with the latest Wrens news. Each week, we’ll check in with Bissell to find out just what exactly the quartet hasn’t been up to.

:: Wrens Watch, Dec. 22, 2008
MAGNET: Charles, this summer you told me that the new Wrens album would be done this fall. Now that it’s been more than five years since The Meadowlands, can you tell me if the follow-up is finally done?

Bissell: [Defensively] When we start recording—or when we’re about to—I promise, you will literally be the first outside the band to know.

Wait, so you mean you haven’t even started recording yet?
[Silence]
Charles, are you still there?
[Silence]
Hello? Charles?

I need to go. I have a fucking kid now, so I don’t have time for this bullshit of yours. I have to go to the fucking music store and buy some new fucking cords for my guitar. And I have to move the fucking van to the other side of the street before it gets a fucking ticket I won’t be able to fucking afford. [Hangs up]

Check in next week to see what’s going on in the wild and wacky world of the Wrens.

......................

:: Wrens Watch, Dec. 29, 2008
MAGNET: I thought after how poorly things went the last time, we could start with an apology. Cool?
Bissell: Cool.
[Silence]
I’m waiting.

Waiting for what?

[Singing in a dead-on Lou Gramm voice] For a girl like you to come into my life. [Pause] For your apology, Charles. What do you think?

Hold on a fucking sec. You said you were gonna apologize.

No I didn’t. Fine, don’t apologize for being a jerk. But you can apologize to your fans for taking so long between albums. I mean, the first seven-year gap between records was kind of endearing and cute. This one is just kind of pathetic and sad.

You mean pathetic and sad like it taking MAGNET until almost 2009 to have something that resembles a real fucking website? Welcome to the ’90s, douchebags.

You kiss your son with that mouth? You probably do, because I can certainly see that you aren’t using that mouth to sing any new Wrens songs.

[Pause] Wait, you hear that sound? Know what that is? That’s me hanging up on you again. Go fuck a duck, cocksucker. [Hangs up]

Check in next week to see what’s going on in the wild and wacky world of the Wrens.

It would be nice to see a new one in 09, but I'm not holding my breath. I can't believe Meadowlands was over 5 years ago...

Metacritic also has it in their releases for 09, though who knows what their source is.

That was pretty funny.
I can't wait for next week's installment.
Did you pull that from the Magnet website?

i'm surprised they didn't try to capitalize on Meadowland's success prior to now. How confounding.

Yeah, they might have been able to double their record sales to around, oh, 48.

My friends, I think we should take a pearl of wisdom for our beloved President George Walker Bush:

"There's an old saying in Tennessee -- I know it's in Texas, probably in Tennessee -- that says, fool me once, shame on -- shame on you. Fool me -- you can't get fooled again. You've got to understand the nature of the regime we're dealing with."

Which would then equal the combined total of all sales from the bands you listen to? So, was that a compliment or an insult?

Neither. It was a comment on Saint's notion of capitalizing on success.

And truth be told, those short interviews with Charles Bissel (posted above) are the closest I've ever come to actually liking the Wrens.

I think they had it in there for 07 and 08 too.

Yeah, it's kinda funny how many people seem to think that this is real. Guess it goes along with the wanting to be a hater mentality on this band here.

Music biz success isn't necessarily about record sales at this point.

No, I'm not one of the strident anti-Wren faction (though I am pretty lukewarm on them, for the most part). I wasn't looking for an angle - I just was gullible enough to believe it was real.

just got this email from the Wrens list:

***

Hi, it’s the wrens.

How are you? How were your holidays? The previous few years before that?
Good, good.

I know, I know…you signed up for this thing like 5 years ago, when you were young, with-it, and actively involved in keeping up on other young, with-it people in bands. Like us.
(we can hear the laughter through your inbox)

Now everyone’s a little older (I just threw a hip hitting the space bar), and receiving mail from us is like getting notice that your My Two Dad’s fanclub membership is in need of renewal. Well it is.

Nevertheless, we continue to actively stalk you, dear reader, with an email update sent out like clockwork ever year or so. Maybe more like calendarwork.

But with brevity as our theme, really just writing to say that:

- 2009 marks our 20th year as a band. Mindbending.
And most of us we’re in our 40’s when we met. Kidding.

- we’ve just released a new song, Pulled Fences, our first since the Meadowlands, and another milestone, the first time the four of us were in one room working on new music in exactly 10 years.
Trees make quicker progress.

- next Monday, the 19th, we begin recording in earnest for the next album etc. in our basement.

- you can read all about this on our spanking-new website:

www.wrens.com

...where we’ll be posting mp3’s of songs-in progress (starting with whatever comes out of next week’s recordo kick-off), adding four more blogs to the web’s pile of millions, trying some other crap we’ve got planned…you get the idea.

In fact, we recommend subscribing to the RSS feed to complete your wrens 2.0 experience.

Alternatively, there should be a “who are you, please remove me from the list, what was I thinkingâ€
