It's not bad, i did expect a bit more insight into the US involvement in the "war on drugs" (but i'm only half way through), but some of the details of the violence involved is terrifying. I particulary like the "head splitters" lead by Carlos Castano, they mutilated bodies with chain saws, they decapitated and rolled heads like soccer balls.

Making my through this:

And then this:

All very interesting, and its very hard not to see parallels in the economic conditions and events talked about in the first book, and today.

We may be headed for a serious reckoning.

It's JK Rowling. Not a lot else that needs to be said.

Mutty - is the Theroux book a compelling read? I've been curious about his work. Adventure travel back then was real adventure.

It's really great - I highly recommend. He's a fantastic writer, first of all, and seems to be a keen observer of people, too. I've had a strong desire to do some travelling lately, though, so I'm obviously biased towards this kind of book.

When a friend lent this to me in HS, the only thing he said was: "If you get caught with this, you didn't get it from me."

Im not a huge Pahlanuik fan but this book was surprisingly good. Not excellent but it was definitely weird and twisted, very Pahlanuik... if you enjoy his works, youll enjoy it.

I really liked this book, he was absolutely hilarious in describing the people in his life... I was a little bummed that I missed Sedaris doing a reading here earlier last year... but yes, you will enjoy this one all the way through.
