MPP is a venue around the Baltimore/DC area. If you've lived in either area, you've no doubt seen countless shows there and it probably at least ranks as one of yr favorite places to see a live show. I would actually love to see AC do a show there, but its usually larger bands that play there.

there are quite a few people on this board that just don't get shit like AC. sucks for them, as honestly, AC are writing some really creative and intelligent music, and they're missing out on it.

but their loss. fuck em, lets get on with enjoying it ourselves. to each their own.

i'd have to disagree and say it's a shit place to see a show...but that's probably because i always had lawn seats.

my ex lived in columbia and we could hear shows from her backyard. good times.

still wondering if there is a story as to why they named it this.

Haha...yeah OK. I don't know how any Animal Collective fan can tell me that this album is better than Sung Tongs. It's just not true.

Not quite, they've progressively gotten more accessible. That's good and bad depending on how you look at it. IMO, they've lost what made them unique.

I think what makes them unique is their ability to take the weirdness and make it accessible in ways that no one is doing right now...except for maybe grizzly bear, and to a much lesser extent.

i don't think this is true entirely. their sound is still very, very unique, but in some ways the ideas are more flushed out, which is a plus imo.

Yep. I have a feeling that OPA!'s opinion is a reaction to hype-aversion. I heard the album on Jan.1 and liked what I could hear. Looking forward to listening at home with a bowl of weed.

I've tested the 320 mp3 rip in the car, at the computer, on a little boombox, and yes, on weed. Due to the way the album is mixed (and probably the mp3), and due to the heaviness of the bass (compared with older AC stuff), it works well in each scenario. It ends up sounding different on every set of speakers.

I agree with the folks that find them progressing with each album. The ideas and fragments that they were working with in the past have become fully realized songs with wierdness, not just wierdness with occasional songs.

I like psychedelic pop music and there's no other way to describe MPP.

My wife's comment about 'Summertime Clothes' - upon hearing the "I wanna walk around with you" chorus was simply this: "So what do you think they'll try and sell with this? iPod? Cell Phone?" That chorus is an earwig/earbug for me - it just gets stuck there.

Anyway, yeah - count me among the hype-folks. My fave albums of their goes like this:

1. Merriweather Post Pavillion
2. Strawberry Jam
3a. Sung Tongs
3b. Feels
4. Hollindagain
5. Here Comes the Indian
6. Campfire Songs
7. Spirit...
8. Danse Manitee

So the overall trend is still better with each album.

Maybe each member takes turns? Haha.

Yeah, with the lawn I've never been to a good show. However, under the cover...

I am relistening to everything I have of theirs until I'm able to find the LP in town, sneaking in a couple listens here and there. Every album from the beginning has brought their two main elements closer together and in better imperfect harmony: pop brilliance and primitive experimentation finally agreeing completely. With the added momentum of this record, on account of the bass, the lushness, and that they're pretty much on the fucking hose every second, this is easily their best and one of my favourite ever. Less filler and more direct songwriting – words about brothers/sports, dads, summertime clothes, and building a house around your girls couldn't be more direct to me, and I don't even have girls.

I've got several gift certs for various multimedia/book stores. I think I'll use one on this. I feel the need to get more PPDD in my diet.

I'm generally fascinated that a band like this can gain such notoriety regardless of if I enjoy the music or not.

The CD's not out until around the 20th, right?

I'm debating whether or not to pick up the vinyl if I can find it. Given that this album is supposed to be super-bassy, I think vinyl is gonna be the way to go.
