duckyboy Skip James - Drunken Spree : shit this is good stuff too. i've got a soft spot for lo-fi acoustic blues. cool vox, and some kind of rapid/sloppy picking strum stuff that is cool too. 8/10

Skip James anything would have won it for me, one of my fav blues musicians

Since we're such a high match on last.fm, I will do the same.

Yeah, somehow I just missed them. It's as shocking to me as it is to you.

The Wrens - Fuzz?
The one Wrens album that I never listen too. The score for that track should have been in the negative.

The Collective Soul was no surprise though. ;)

round 2 match

e-stone vs. jagged

e-stone Goldfrapp - Happiness : this sounds very pleasant, but it also seems kind paint-by-numbers to me. 5/10

jagged Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - Cannibal's Hymn : just the opposite here. not particularly pleasant, but definitely not paint-by-numbers. i'm digging this. he makes everyone else seem like a lightweight. 6/10

jagged wins and will go on to face the winner of wench vs. ducky

round 2 match

wenchlette vs. duckyboy

wenchlette jose gonzlez - abram : i like this guy. good voice, acoustic guitar seems to be part of the song rather than backdrop. also i think the beta band would do a cool remix of this song if they were still together. 7/10

duckyboy the damned - i just can't be happy today : this is pretty wild. sounds like kitchen sink garage. i wish the vocals were slightly less warbled/gurgled though. 7/10

tie breaker

duckyboy richard thompson - night and day : is this richard or linda? i'm not really familiar with this guy but his voice is a bit effeminate. overall well executed, but not doing enough to keep my attention span over the course of 5.5 minutes. 5/10

wenchlette Seabear - Libraries: i think i liked these guys the last time i heard them on here. it's indie pop 101 for sure but there's a nice piano loop and vocal harmonies so that goes a long way with me! hook me up with this stuff. i could see myself becoming a fan. 6/10

wenchlette wins and moves on face jagged in round 3

I love that these are based on the subjectivity of one individual. These are some of my favorite threads, though.

You write this as if you're unfamiliar with the track. What gives?

round 2 match

dalen vs. sanchez

dalen Xela - Drunk On Salk Water : Wavy, washy, a little drippy and tinkly. kinda electronica but at the same time sounds a bit lo-fi and found sound-ish. ine thing is for sure, this isn't floating my boat. 3/10

sanchez Enanitos Verdes - Luz De Dia : Sounds like latin adult contemporary. the fact that they are singing in spanish makes it infinitely more bearable though. also it sounds like they mean what they sing, even though i don't understand what they are saying. 4/10

sanchez wins that pitiful round. will go on to face the winner of twoguns vs. patrick

round 2 match

twoguns vs. patrick

twoguns drive by truckers - daddy needs a drink : although they don't come up often, i suspect this to be the achilles heel of some/many competitors. the sound is quality, the songwriting bores me to tears. 3/10

patrick Peter Searcy - The Summer Behind Us : This guy used to be in Squirrel Bait? kinda just sounds like regular tolerable corporate rock. the peppy verses are ok but this bores me as well. 3/10

tie breaker

patrick From Bubblegum To Sky - The Flash : ah, good ol indie pop. the vocals have always sounded weird to me, both nasally and also seems like they are in seperate empty room than the instruments. this is the simple catchy stuff i dig though. 6/10

twoguns The Shins - Australia : now these vocals i like! they take control of the melody and the drum pops properly to keep of the pace. everything else is just window dressing (though the banjo is cool). now this is stuff i wouldn't embarrassed to have play at a college rock/indie/hipster party, unlike the first round stuff. 7/10

twoguns avoids a loss and will go on to play sanchez in the quarterfinals

This is actually a pretty awesome idea for a thread.

The final winner should be the one who gets to ref the next round of rumbles as we start over again from the beginning.
