I never heard the Bono comparison at all. I guess I can see it a little bit now that you've said it, but not much.

As for looking like U2, you have nothing to fear.

Singer looks more like Strummer than Bono.

the singer looks EXACTLY like i thought he would. everyone else, not.

I heard they're a little boring live, unfortunately...too bad, maybe they'll get better.

but I don't want you to love me long time. ;) Besides, my indie "cred" would be destroyed if I actually exchanged cash for a band t-shirt at my age.

now I didn't say I would pick it up used at a thrift shop, while wearing nerdy glasses, skinny jeans and an ironic t-shirt. Besides, I'm sure Urban Outfitters will be selling them soon. ;)

My bad, most of the time the PDX shows are the immediate day before or day after the Seattle show - looks like this time they went to Vancouver the following day and then came back through Seattle on their way down the coast. Have fun!!

Nice touch on the "Stories for Boys" thing by the way ;)

I just heard this for the first time and I have to say I'm liking this quite a bit. All the derivations are present, yet it still sounds somewhat fresh.
....and um, who cares wtf they look like.

OK, so I'm barely awake, but here goes...

I'm happy to say as far as performance goes, they put on a great show. Sound was good, and instead of holding on to "Geraldine" for an encore, they did it about the 4th song in.

The bad: they were late going on stage. I was expecting them to go on around 10, and they didn't go on until 11. I think the reason for that is because the singer was battling a sore throat. By the 2nd song, he apologized profusely ("I know my throat sounds like shit") and thanked us for being so understanding. They soldiered on, and then towards the end of their set, the singer once again explained how this is their first US tour, and Portland is a long way from Glasgow. He said he realized the show didn't start on time and knew we, the audience, had gotten restless. But in a very humble way, he thanked us for being so patient and really appreciated us sticking around. Didn't get a hint of ego from them at all, which was nice.

Sorry, no set list, but I know they did:

Flowers and Football Tops
It's My Own Cheating Heart that Makes me Cry
Polmont on my Mind
Geraldine
Daddy's Gone
Stabbed
Ice Cream Van
Go Square Go

They left the stage and were clearly going to come out and do more, but I was so exhausted I left, so not sure what they played after that. Anyhow, I'd recommend them... I'll be curious to see how the LA shows go considering the singer was really struggling at times.

edit: Also my concert companion knew NOTHING about this band. I asked her if she thought they sounded like U2. She said no, nothing like them. ;)

The show sold out. I don't know what max capacity is at the Doug Fir (maybe 300?), but I think I also read that LA's show sold out too.

Tonight's show was quite good! 'Twas nice to see Carl Barat again. Celebrity sightings -- Rick Rubin and Lisa Presley.

What topped the evening, though, was seeing a lot of friends I hadn't seen in awhile and gettin' better VIP treatment than the band. ;)

Nice to hear, Tania... hopefully the singer sipped hot tea and honey in his trek from Portland?
