I totally forgot this was coming out. Put it in my 2009 anticipated releases for sure.

I guess "Space City" is a cover of the DBT song? And a cover of "Hey Ya" too?!?

WAY more excited about this as a new Booker T album than a DBT project, but excited nonetheless.

Is this going to come out under the name Potato Hole or Booker T?

Or is it going to be an awkward Booker T & The MG's featuring Drive-By Truckers & Neil Young?

Or Neil Young & Booker T. with Drive-By Truckers?

file under: Southern Man Don't Mind Neil

I would hope that the whole would be greater than the sum of its parts, but this

gives me pause. I bet the budget for this included an ounce of coke for every 8 hours in the studio, and it will sound more like 80s era cock rock than any of these bands imagined possible

Honestly, I would be more excited about this if Neil Young wasn't involved.

Openly. He's a Pretzel Man.

For me, I don't quite see what he adds aside from a little self indulgence, and a fan base to actually BUY the record.

Booker recruited Neil, so they obviously have some chemistry and they have been playing together for a couple decades now.

Don't take this the wrong way, but Neil Young is really fucking annoying.

Musically or as a human being? I thought you liked Neil Young.

I hope Patterson writes the liner notes on this like he did for Bettye LaVette's album.

Considering Neil only contributed guitar on this, I'd think his part wouldn't fall under annoying. If it's electric, then it will add something special to it since NO ONE has his electric guitar tone.

How about DBT's constant involvement with all things 60s/70s southern soul/R&B/rock? Muscle Shoals, Spooner Oldham, Bettye Lavette (from MI, but recorded in Muscle Shoals and Memphis) now Booker T (Stax)?

Didn't read the article but I know Booker T is playing with them at jazzfest this year. I had assumed it was just a one off linkup set up by spooner. Didn't realize that he was doing an album with them.
