Then Jerome Brown died and Reggie White signed with the Packers and Randall Cunningham died.

There is no point to this story, except to illustrate how fucking facile your arguments are.

i am still waiting for you to tell me what part of my argument is facile. this year's super bowl teams are not very good compared to the super bowl teams of the past. it's not even really debatable.

It's facile because what you're saying is completely arbitrary and simply can't be quantified. By your logic, since the Steelers had a better record than the Giants did last year, then the Steelers should be able to beat the Pats of last year as well. Therefore, this Steelers team should be better than both of those teams.

What if I said that the 1982 49er's are better than the 1998 Broncos. IT'S NOT EVEN DEBATABLE. Give me a break.

I also think that Bloors comparison to the BCS holds water as well. Texas beat Oklahoma head to head but they didn't get to play for the Championship despite having the same record. Who is better? It doesn't matter because this is the system that has been agreed upon. The NFL has the playoffs and some say that it dilutes the regular season some (the thing BCS defenders talk of) but it's what everyone has agreed upon. The Cards didn't have the best record in the regular season but they beat everyone they played in the "2nd season" until the last game so how can you say they "sucked'. The results on the field say otherwise.

Chad,

THat's what the bye week is for in the playoffs.
The thing about the wild card teams doing well is because they improved as a team as the year went along. (Except for the New England game in Arizona's case.)
The super bowl isn't about putting together a great season and then being the team that should have won the superbowl. It's about being the best team after the 22 weeks (or whatever).

Looks like a ten cent bump this morning, but that took it from 1.72 to 1.82, and I bought it at 1.90 I think. It hit 2.30 or so a month back, but I'm waiting for more like 3 or 4.

(tents fingers) I too can play the waiting game, Denny's.

I predict the stock tanks after they give away free food for 8 hours tomorrow.

Up $.25 from the weekend and was almost to $2 for a while today.

Baby Squirrgle's gettin' one them gold-plated rattles.

No sooner did you say that, Chad, than it started tanking. $1.82 again, and sinking like a rock.

Curious question, did you play football at an organized level, and if so what level did you stop?

i never said that a team has to win more than 12 games to be a great team, just that this year's steelers aren't that impressive. they are a one dimensional team, and that dimension, the defense, gave up almost 400 yards in the air and got torched for a 65 yard td with the game on the line.

i know palamalou or however you spell it has a lot of endorsements and long pretty hair, but he missed a tackle worse than i have ever seen one missed and anchored a secondary that, again, gave up nearly 400 passing yards.

i don't know what you were watching, but i saw holmes bail out that entire team. it was an unbelievable individual performance.

So, your issue is that both teams in the super bowl this year played mediocre GAMES (at least in some aspects) and that is somehow a reflection on their "greatness" this season?

I'm not speaking for Thrillhouse, but...

For the most part, EVERYBODY in the NFL is mediocre. That's by design. They do it with salary caps and scheduling. I see the appeal for most people of the Any Given Sunday concept, but I find that it results in a wholly boring product. I'm making no comment on NASCAR as sport nor entertainment, but the NFL is stock car football.

I see that as 2 different issues. Greatness is always relative to context.

I love how Polamalu gave up at the 20 because there was no way he was coming close to catching Fitzgerald.
