This was quite good. early show, which will help me get to work on time tomorrow morning. They actually had the openers, Neva Dinova, earlier than was posted, so we completely missed their set. Jesse Sykes and the sweet hereafter was quite enjoyable - I think that I will try to pick up their album as soon as I can. I particularly enjoyed her voice, and the lead guitarists' sound, which was excellent.

As for Bright Eyes, I was very impressed/pleasantly surprised. The drummer kicked ass, and Mike Mogis' multiple instruments sounded great, and Conor was sober, mature, congenial, and seemed very intelligent. Best quote of his: "Cynicism is the new Christianity...God Bless." There were a huge number of screams from girls in the audience, which he never so much as acknowledged having happened, but when a guy called out in horrid falsetto "ooh, Conor, you're so pretty," Conor replied "Now you're just being sarcastic." I think that's actually when he made the above comment about cynicism.

When I add the fact that he doesn't seem too hung up on his actual self (while his in-song persona is hopelessly narcissistic) to the quality of the songs that I heard tonight, I have to throw in and give a backlash against the backlash.

Tania, how did you like Autolux/Secret Machines? I'm jealous that your show included the Moving Units. Mine didn't in Santa Ana. I thought the show was incredible. I can't believe it took me this long to discover the greatness of Autolux.

Cheers!

I had a great time, except for the Moving Units' teeny bopper fans who moshed on top of my feet. I ended up leaving front center stage to the opera box where I got kicked out of. Stood in the balcony and watched the rest of the show from up there. Saw Greg (Autolux) and the MU drummer after the show...interesting how none of the MU fanbase even noticed their "fave" band walking around (whatever). At some point in time, I thought I saw you and was gonna ask the guy, "Hey, is your name Zach?"...but after staring at him for what I'm sure he thought was an uncomfortable amount of time, I figured it wasn't you. Glad you finally discovered Autolux (here's another LA band recommendation -- check out Bedroom Walls).

Cool thanks, for the rec, Tania! It wasn't me at that show, though I would have liked to have seen MU too. The Galaxy in Santa Ana was a great place to see a show, tons of room, close to stage, easy free parking and lots of places to sit.
