Are these archived anywhere? I'd like to go back and see how much of this is still on my listening radar.

Do you want your list or the overall list?

Those plus Sonic Youth - Murray Street and Joe Pisapia - Daydreams still get a lot of spins from me. I also in theory still like a bunch more of these but haven't given them a spin in a while.

I'd definitely agree that it was a strong year.

At the time I thought it sucked balls.

I agree that it was a great year, but the only albums on that list that I think are great are The Walkmen, The Notwist, and maybe Spoon.

It's just that everyone here always refers to '02 as a "great year", but there's no evidence it was any better than any other year of the '00s. Unless you're the type of person who fell for the Vines and Interpol.

This I agree with. '03 and '04 are the only years this decade that (for me at least) had more than an average number of very good/great albums and the amount of difference is pretty marginal.

I've got to disagree with you. I don't think its the best year of the 00's but its probably second best.

Its true that every year has some good music if you look hard enough but I think 02 has many more albums that held up for me years later.

Daydreams might be my favorite album of the 00's
Black Letter days is the best thing Frank Black has ever done.
The first Walkmen album is by far their best and still one of my favorite 00's album
I like Free So Free more than any D. Jr. album
Murray St. is the best Sonic Youth album since Dreamday Nation
KTM is the best Spoon album (know you disagree)

I remember about 3 songs into the first listen to that Walkmen album, I mysteriously found myself in the kitchen frantically rummaging through the knife drawer. Put that thing in a mailer and sent it to someone, not sure who, straight away.

Yeah, thanks for clarifying for them, shmoo. Obviously now, the first list is my personal list from that year. Looking back, '03 was pretty great as well. I don't know if there are 10 albums total over the last two years that would've cracked my '02 top 20.
