This baby is bad to the bone.

I was gonna suggest a pickup change too Phil but wasn't sure how much he was Gassing for a new guitar. It happens.

The choice (and price) of guitars in Australia is notoriously stupid so I'm probably gonna have to incur the shipping and buy overseas.

Of your links, the kent is the best bet, followed by the hofner. the jag will sound even tinnier than the strat.

Have you considered playing around with new pickups in your strat?

Also, what amp are you playing? You might not need a new guitar at all, unless you're just jonesing for one, in which case bloor's suggestion of a tele deluxe is on the mark.

For noisy shoegazey stuff with rich distortion, i think you can't go wrong with a hollowbody with P-90s through a class a tube amp.

I'm playing through an AC15, but I mostly use a smaller/cheaper 15 watt Vox amp when I'm at home or if I'm practicing somewhere and can't score a lift (don't have a car).

And I realise I'm wanting a new guitar more than I'm needing one, but I have a bit of cash lying around that I'll otherwise just piss away on trash, so I want something to show for it.

Phil and I are not the people who will talk you out of buying a guitar.

Is your AC 15 one of the newer ones with DSP effects and shit, or is it one of the all tube ones? And Bloor is right.

Phil, I've come across a few being sold like that Casino:

Quote:
They are stamped Used or 2nd: These guitars were stamped on the back of the headstock with an imprint stamp by the manufacturer to void false warranty claims. The stamp protects you (the consumer) from someone selling a refurbished guitar as a new guitar.

Serial Numbers: The serial numbers have been partially removed by the manufacturer to void false warranty claims.

Is this a problem?

i've owned factory seconds, they've always been fine.

It's usually some minor finish flaw, and i'm going to ding it up worse on my own anyway. It's a tool, not an heirloom.

man I envy you guys... guitars are relatively cheap? (I have no clue). All I know is trying to buy saxophones (even used) make me envious. For instance, for the prices of those guitars you are lucky if you can find a good student horn in good working and ok cosmetic condition.

Maybe I need to take up the guitar.

I've paid in this ballpark for a bass.

I've also paid this amount many times over for a viola, back when i thought that it was going to be my career. One of my teachers bought a viola my senior year that is worth 3 times what I paid for my house. Be glad you're not an orchestral string player.

All those teles you posted look nice, but I bet they climb beyond my price range by the time bidding has closed. I'll keep any eye out tho.

I've considered doing a build (maybe a P-body with a J neck) routed for a single Darkstar.

Oh I know professional instruments can be insanely expensive. I just envy the choices ~ $500 for guitars. Its a good thing there arent many options though, this way I stick with my yas-23 until I decide on a pro horn.. if and when I dont suck.

If you buy a pro horn, especially vintage, it's also an investment. It'll retain value at the least, and likely appreciate. Plus, a better horn might make you have better tone which would encourage you to play more and get more technically proficient.

The money sax is a Selmer Balanced Action if you can find one.

Guaranteed investment.

There's one right now that needs refurbished but is a steal on ebay at 2K when they regularly sell for 10K and up. Plus they sound amazing.

If that Hofner stays at 750 I think I'm gonna pick it up. Free shipping AND case.

Talk me in or out of this.
