God, i have questions today...

Anywho, do any of you firefoxes use their (mozilla) email service (Thunderbird 0.9)? and if so how do you rate it?

And whats the deal? It cant be this good/too good to be true etc. Like opening a mom-and-pop shop in a small town that puts wal-mart out of business...

Mozilla is probably a front for the largest cartel of identity theft experts EVER...

edit: speling (as uzuall)

I used it, and I liked it, except for one missing features, which was really huge for me. It won't allow you to forward all of your incoming mail to another account. With Outlook, I forward every email to my gmail account so I can check it from work and not log into several different separate sites. Thunderbird does not allow this.

For whatever reason, they also never plan to. The general defense is anti-spam, but it really doesn't prevent spam if there are a number of other clients that do it anyway, plus Outlook won't die anytime soon.

What I did like was the feature that allowed each one of my addresses have their own separate file tree, so it's easier to organize things that are work/personal.

Have you tried the Mozilla Calendar? I like it too, except that I'm only good with calendars for a week or two.

I use Firefox now. Finally, no more pop-ups. Don't use their e-mail service though.... I just stick with the basic yahoo e-mail.

Although there are certain quirks w/Firefox that I don't like... certain pages don't load up properly and it drives me insane.

Haven't tried the mail service, but no, it's not too good to be true (although it's damn good). The history of Firefox is somewhat interesting. When Netscape more or less conceded years ago, they opened up their basic broswer code to the public. Mozilla was born as a lot of software projects are, as a huge collaborative effort between a lot of programmers who want to make something people want (a decent alternative to IE). The first several versions sucked ass, too. It was all slow and had a dinosaur logo. Firefox is the lean, mean next generation of the project.

Hm. That probably actually wasn't that interesting to most of you. Oh well, I already typed it.

I use Firefox and the only annoyances I have are:

1) It takes a long time to load the first time after I've restarted.

2) When I upgrade to a new Firefox version, and it searches for extension upgrades, it usually doesn't find them even though I find them when I manually search.

My Firefox died on Sunday. Just stopped working. And when I re-opened it I was told that it was being used by another user and to create a new account. I tried to fix it up, but no dice. Since they were issuing a new version on Tuesday I decided to let it go until then. It wasn't a huge deal, but I lost all my bookmarks from the last month or so.

fwiw, 4 years later, this isn't really something that should be handled by your mail client software. it would be relatively simple to write an addon to have thunderbird do this, but really it makes much more sense for your mail server to take care of auto-fowarding. i realize that most people don't run their own mail servers or have control over forwarding at that level, but i'm just sayin'.

Assuming you are using windows, your lost bookmarks should be easily retrievable.

Well, they're not really comparable things. Thunderbird is a local email client, hotmail is both the server and a webmail client. You can use Thunderbird to read mail from any server, including hotmail's. Even if you're using a webmail service, it's useful to use a local client so you can store messages locally for offline reading, etc.

And let's not forget killfile and UserHide in Firefox.

Anyone dl the newest update and anytime you try to download have it blocked? I did, and apparently when you disable all your add-ons it works. Dunno. It sucks that I had to disable adblock and whatnot, but at least I can dl now.

All web-based email is exactly the fucking same, and they all let you store a shit tonne of data. What's the difference?
