And are there additional stat categories allowed with Plus leagues? If they offer 2B + 3B, we should go with that over just 2B.

I'd like to see sb% swapped out for plain old sb. ricky henderson is in the hall of fame for his sb total. not for his sb%. sb% just seems overly esoteric.

Also, I'd favor changing k to k/9 and QS to walks. This goes to Timmy's complaint about incessant waiver wire scooping for pitchers during the finals. Under the current setup, 6 of the 8 pitching categories favor starting as many pitchers as possible (ip, w, s, k, holds, qs). Using k/9 and walks, along with era and whip, categories where you'd be hurt if you started every random pitcher, would negate that advantage.

OK, I'm in, and I agree with the above.

What's up with no playoffs?

And if we get one more person (or if Timmy changes his mind), how about increasing the league to 16 teams? (especially since you dropped MI, CI, etc.- good players will be available for more teams).

I'm for SB over SB% as well.

As far as adding more pitching categories, then we'd have to add more hitting categories and, once again, we end up with 15 category, 25 starting players league.

If I recal correctly, 2B was put in to even out HLD so that middle relievers would have value. I wouldn't mind if 2B (which comes into play with OPS) went away, with QS going away on the other side, but I could live with it either way...

It's not adding pitching categories, we are proposing to change k to k/9 and QS to walks.

I'd also be up for changing Holds to Blown Saves.

But that would favor starting fewer pitchers.

ip, w, s and holds all favor using more pitchers.

k/9, walks, era and whip all favor using fewer pitchers.

this way there's no advantage either way.

Like Timmy said, I'm not advocating adding categories. Just swapping the two pitching categories, and using 2B + 3B (which is a single category) instead of 2B, if they offer it. Not sure they do, though.

k/9 is not a good stat.

I like keeping holds.

I don't like SB% (prefer SB), Blown Saves, or most other negative stats.

As previously stated, I'd like to have SB instead of SB% (nacho agrees).

I'd also like to eliminate QS and 2B as categories, and go with a 7X7 league, but could live with it either way.

I can see how K/9 diminishes the star strikeout pitcher. I'd rather keep 2B and swap out QS for Losses. (This would counter pitchers who blow saves and holds and deter people from throwing in any old starter to rack up innings.)

There has to be more of a downside to starting a bunch of shitty pitching. Only 2 categories can hurt and it should be 3 or 4.

It's not the most thrilling stat, but it makes sense to use if we're going with an 8 x 8 format.

If you want to cut categories, it might make more sense to cut it down to 6x6. That way you could still balance the pitching categories.

Just noticed Monty changed the pitching categories- swapping k for k/9 (yay) and QS for outs. Outs doesn't balance the categories though - with walks, the team with fewer walks wins the categories (which discourages mass pitcher swapping). Outs is the opposite, however- the team with more outs wins, which encourages starting as many pitchers as you can.[/quote]

I'd rather have K's and Losses instead of k/9 and Outs.

K/9 stays, but I changed Outs to Walks.

... But, yes, Timothy, are you in or out? Will you attempt to defend your wire-to-wire (?) title?

How many former champions in the league? We have Nacho, Postmersh, Dhr_Jericho, & TimmyJoe -- anyone else?

Monty-

I think the league is maxed at 14 teams, but 16 people have signed up here. Since we have smaller rosters than previous years, how about kicking it up to 16 teams?

Actually, I won the Football League in 2004. Which is weird, because other than that year, I usually am near the bottom in the CMJ/Obner Football Leagues. Just for giggles, I went to my Fantasy Profile on Yahoo where you can view past results of all your teams, and my Baseball Teams are usually near the top, but I've never won (yet ;)). Seriously, I just want to not finish 3rd for the 4th year in a row!!!

Baseball Team Finishes
2008 - 3rd
2007 - 3rd
2006 - 3rd
2005 - 6th
2004 - 6th
2003 - 2nd

Don't know. He was one of last year's owners to whom I sent an invite for this year, when I first signed-up as (a non-Plus) League, but I have yet to see Fishstick among the participants's list.

I've been on a steady decline

2003 - 1st
2004 - 1st
2005 - 4th
2006 - 4th
2007 - 7th
2008 - 12th (and 6 out of 8 on the 2nd chance league).

Tough goings.
