ROUND 1. lowest two scores are eliminated.

alongwaltz Beat Happening - Ask Me: heather lewis singing a capella. i like it but it's a bit of a throwaway. 5/10

billyg Jesus and Mary Chain - Catchfire : yeeaaaah. just love the shoefuzz grooove. works better at night. and while watching The Crow. 6/10

dalen
The Little Ones - Face The Facts : sounds like they took that warbly tv score sound and looped it to great effect. i am sure i would dig this. hook me up dalen. 7/10

drank Son Volt - Loose String : yeah, i like Son Volt better than Wilco, fuck you. 6/10

e-stone My Bloody Valentine - Soon : this is one of the sacred cows i love to kick in the nuts. i guess it's kinda like J&MC, but 1) too much high end, and 2) not enough grooove. it's a 6 minutes snooze. 3/10

rads Tv on the Radio - Love Dog : I like a handful of songs by TVoR and this isn't one of them. is this going to be another "i never listened to that band" thing with rads? 4/10

rparis74 Sparklehorse - Homecoming Queen: blah. possibly worse than MBV. certainly just as bad. 3/10

sanchez Shins - Kissing The Lipless : my fav song from this album. i suppose these guys are pretty hit and miss, but i do enjoy the hits. 8/10

timmyjoe Airbourne - Blackjack : Australian hard rock? hmm, there's definitely potential here. this rocks but not hard enough for me to avoid saying "been there done that." 5/10

wenchlette Pop Levi - See My Lord : starts off with a weird sound collage. oh, it's going to keep doing that. hmm. i gotta say this is not that good. sounds like they took a song that was barely passable and then ruined it. 2/10

wench saves one of these two at the last minute with a poor showing.

quick tie breaker:
e-stone Curtis Mayfield - Freddie's Dead : nice funky soul. 7/10

rparis The Clash - Julie's in the Drug Squad. sheesh, talk about going from worst to first. this is a cool song by a band i really like. 8/10

wench and stone are out.

I lost my patience with last.fm when I typed in "Rolling Stones" and they had the audacity to ask me "Did you mean THE Rolling Stones?". No, I fucking meant to type "The Jonas Brothers". It's two-thousand-fucking-nine, boys!

Haha. Awesome. They have an auto-correct feature now for your scrobbles. It conveniently adds in all the "The"s. I take them out of all my mp3 titles because it is stupid to search for Rolling Stones under T. Wow, they sure are thoughtful for making things more convenient.
I have a bunch of duplicate bands though. I have a listing for Cult and The Cult. There should be some easy way to just combine the 2 band stats.

ROUND 2 - lowest score elimmed

drank
sanchez
dalen
billy
timmy
rads
rparis
along

alongwaltz Daniel Johnston - Speeding Motorcycle : good old lo fi goofiness. a bit of a classic, though a tad long 7/10

dalen Torche - Speed Of The Nail : this rocks pretty good. treading some generic headbanger's ball ground, but worth looking into. 6/10

billy The Hot Pants - Ay Que Dolor : hmm, spanish rock. a good pace, and i'll just guess the lyrics aren't terrible, but they sound like they might be. not sure if this is a good example of this kind of music or not, but it sounds ok. 5/10

drank Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers - Come Rain or Come Shine : I like this, reminds me of what i hear on my local jazz station. moving melodies that string your ear along without getting tooo weird and wonky. not something i would sit down with but i do like driving to this if that makes any sense. 6/10

sanchez Deerhoof - Cast Off Crown : uhoh, i don't like this band. throw them into my "blah and overrated" often. this isn't bad, usually i hear tuneless nonsense noise. not sure if i find this ok or just tolerable. i'll go with a rare 4.5/10 rating.

rads Amy Winehouse - Me & Mr John : i like her style but i don't think this is her best vocal performance. kinda standard, but i enjoy the standard oldies soul pop sound. 5/10

rparis - The Jazz Butcher - The Human Jungle : one of the genre tags for this band is "excellent underrated bands". pretty good british indie pop, maybe even better than good, but certainly not 7 minutes long good. the verses flow smoothly and the chorus is great but why on earth didn't they quit while they were ahead? i guess they wanted to jam for a bit. 5/10

timmy Tom Petty - The Apartment Song : I gotta get me a good Tom Petty hits mix or tenner. the more i hear the more i like. i guess he was one of those guys i avoided getting "into" depsite liking many of his hits because of his fans. i like this a lot though. 8/10

despite bumping sanchez's score up as much as my conscience would allow, he gets the axe. that was a pretty decent round. some borderline stuff but nothing outright shitty.

Round 3 - lowest three scores sit!

drank
dalen
billy
timmy
rads
rparis
along

dalen Bloc Party - The Prayer : good back beat that hardly matches the rest of the song. too bad, i like my stuff to fall in line like ducks in a row. there's some stuff from this band i like, but this doesn't cut it. 4/10

billy David Ackles - One Night Stand : this feels like when Family Guy cuts away to Conway Twitty, except this is California folk pop instead of country schlock. 2/10

drank Dennis Wilson - End of the Show: hey! another cali singer-songwriter! his guy was in the beach boys so it pains me to say this is just as bad as the previous track. this song has a crescendo, but it crescendo's INTO elevator muzak. 2/10

timmy Stars - He Lied About Death : sounds like a moby piano loop on the wrong speed. and birds chirping. ah now the layers are coming. i like the harmonies. takes a while to get flying but still cool. 6/10

along Cyndi Lauper - I Drove All Night : this is from the Essential Cyndi Lauper album, which, by my count, should only have 2 songs on it. yes, this is in the bottom third of all 80s pop. 3/10

rads - The Blondes - Suzi Quatro : Hey, look a rock song. straightforward but competent. plus it's about Leather Tuscadero. this song is twice as good as some of the crap that's been pulled here. 5/10

rparis Avett Brothers - Murder in the City : simple americana. with a good story and a good vocalist. is that too much to ask for? 6/10

alongwaltz, drank, and billy are out.
