Even though Haq will say "it never happened" my dad once told me if I am ever offered an all expense paid trip to India, under no circumstances should I take.

Have fun with the dissentary!!

My sister got paid to be a nanny for a couple weeks for a family moving over there for work...flight home was spent throwing up or shitting liquid.

My best friend has to go to Mumbi about every three months for work. He has pretty cool pics of elephants roaming the streets. He doesn't do much more than work while he's there so I don't think he'd be much help in the tourist department.

Really curious to see how you make out.

And Loog is correct about the shits. From what I've heard, prepare yourself for some serious seat time.

Need a translator for Durlach? I fit in luggage.

A friend of mine went to India for a couple months and didn't enjoy her experience. She said there is absolutely nothing that could get her to go back.

your experience will probably have to do a lot with your expectations going in and how you prepare yourself (not talking about luggage). the bigger cities seem like they could be insane--awesome at first then with an insidious onset of overwhelming. i have a friend who went for a month and she loved it until the last week when she left kerela and tamilnadu for bigger cities in the north, got the g.i. funk, and a was overwhelmed by sick and tired and wanted out.

i want to go at some point in the near future and will probably do my best to stay in the southern half or the country.

there's a great documentary series, the story of india, that recently ran on pbs. . . wonderful show. . . might be worth netflix-ing it.

edit: by the way, i'm insanely jealous!

Ya know, just about everyone I've known that has gone to India is most amazed by the large proportion of people who find it perfectly acceptable to take a shit in public. Just sayin'.
