Manchester’s Doves are coming back to Minneapolis for the first time in nearly seven years, touring behind their forthcoming record Kingdom Of Rust. The band, who have had to cancel their last two scheduled shows in Minneapolis, finally return to play the Varsity on May 28th, after previously playing the 7th Street Entry (with the Strokes opening), First Ave and the Fine Line (with Elbow opening) in 2002. Doves have always had a big, ethereal sound that should translate well to the confines of the Varsity, and from the sound of the first couple of tracks that have been released from Kingdom Of Rust thus far, the band has crafted another sonic tour de force. This certainly goes on the calendar as one of the shows I’m looking forward to the most in 2009.

05.14 San Diego, CA: House of Blues
05.15 Anaheim, CA: House of Blues
05.16 Los Angeles, CA: The Wiltern
05.18 San Francisco, CA (The Fillmore
05.19 Eugene, OR: McDonald Theatre
05.21 Vancouver, BC :Commodore Ballroom
05.22 Portland, OR: Wonder Ballroom
05.23 George, WA: Sasquatch! Festival
05.26 Denver, CO: Gothic Theatre
05.28 Minneapolis, MN: Varsity Theater
05.29 Chicago, IL: Vic Theatre
05.30 Detroit, MI: Majestic Theater
06.01 Toronto, ON: Kool Haus
06.02 Montreal, QC: Le National
06.04 New York, NY: Terminal 5
06.05 Philadelphia, PA: The Trocadero
06.06 Washington, DC: 9.30 Club
06.07 Boston, MA: House of Blues

SWEET! I may end up going to both NYC and Philly, if I can get the tickets.

Now here is a band that I've seen on each album they've put out.

First Time - Worst band I've ever seen

Second Time - Much Much Better...worth staying until the end

Third Time - Fucking Unbelievable.

First and only time I saw them they were amazing -- can still feel the bass reverb. However, there was this up-and-coming buzz that I'd never heard of named The Strokes who opened, and they really sucked!

Not to toot my own horn, but what the hell...

On Doves first tour of the US, when they played with the Strokes, I was given the opportunity to interview Andy (the drummer). Was a great interview, and I really had the impression that they loved what they had seen of America. Near the end of the interview, Jez, and Jimi came in, and Jimi blurted out, "The best thing about America are, chicks and shops". He was sporting a new set of Chuck Taylors.

Jez said one of his favorite albums of all time is Blur Parklife, and then we talked about ODB.

Anyway, the show they did that night at the Double Door was amazing. Super tight performance that blew the crowd away. During the Strokes set, since no one really knew of them, the crowd was pretty much standing there being indie, but in the back, Andy was rocking out, and filming the show on a little Handy-cam.

Hearing Spaceface live, hearing Cedar Room in the Double Door, with all of its character. Really a performance for the ages.

Insta-fan for life.

Seeing them tomorrow night.

I'm finally lovin' the new album as much as their previous efforts. It took awhile but I got there.

i was going to go to the nyc, but i refuse b/c the fees alone made me want to cut a bitch and not worth it for terminal 5. if they come back to nyc and play at a different venue, then i'm all about it.

i don't think sell tickets at HOB unless it's the night of the show, you have to go to the orpheum box office to get them, which i am about to ride my bike down to in a few.

Much brit rock goodness from last nite.

Opening band Wild Light bored the shit out of me but other than that, it was a tight 2 hrs set.

I posted the setlist and some pix/vids on me blog for your viewing pleasure.

they switched out "firesuite" for "cedar room" in toronto the other night. now, that would've been awesome.
