A friend gave me a copy of this last month. It's pretty amazing.

I need it.
All I have is "The Man & His Music"

Ouside of how raw and rockin' the band is, and how much fun Cooke has with the songs and his own voice, there are some pretty funny moments on here too.

I laugh every time during "Somebody Have Mercy":

I wanna know what is wrong with me...
IT AIN'T THAT LEUKEMIA!

That show was absolute mayhem. It's a miracle it got recorded.

This is still the only Sam Cooke I have. I should probably get more.

Holy shit fuck this is good. I fucking LOVE Sam Cooke and this is a great addition to what I have.

I wanted my wedding song to be "That's How Strong My Love Is" (Stones version)

There are days when I can be persuaded that Sam Cooke is the greatest American singer ever. The live recordings are key to "get" him, too.

Sam is the obvious hero of my favorite singer ever.

Seriously good stuff. If you couldn't tell from his studio recordings that Cooke's voice was magic, then this absolutely seals the deal.

He was Rod Stewart's idol too, btw.

I think the magic of alive recording like this is that his personality really shines through.

I have the Guralnick bio but have never bothered to even crack the spine.

You gave that to me a couple of years ago and I finally started reading it a couple months ago.

It's VERY thorough to the point of being tedious. It sometimes follows his life in several month increments by chapter.

I'd say it's probably the definitive bio on him but at 700 pages I've had to put it down and read something else at times.
