and to answer your question about WITTR, they seemed nice at first, and i'm sure they are nice guys (when you aren't discussing money with them)
but when you are, they won't be happy when you pay them hundreds of dollars more than the contract asks you to, and they will bitch about it and say "this is bullshit for a sold out show" (the fire marshall recently reduced the venues capacity by 100 people) and "i've been booking shows since i was 13 years old" like my boyfriend had wronged somebody. all that he did was pay them more than they expected, catch shit for it, pay for expenses (the food that was cooked for them, the beer they drank for free, the sound guy who makes a living doing just that, the cost to print posters, the venue gets 30% (i'm pretty sure it's 30%) after all ticket sales, etc)
they were being pretentious cunts, their attitudes towards my friend who works at the venue, and my boyfriend were fucking terrible, and i hope i never have to see them again.
BUT, krallice and a storm of light were awesome and the members of their bands were quite nice.
colin, who is in dysrhythmia, krallice, behold the arctopus, among various other projects, seems to enjoy playing richmond considering his bands have played here three times since the new year started, and will be playing this july (dysrhythmia) and they typically play a smaller venue which can only let 100 people in, and he typically plays $6 shows and evidently is happy with that because he is in richmond playing shows frequently.
a band of a higher caliber than wittr, (nachtmystium) played a show at the 100 capacity venue, very last minute, with little promotion due to this. the show cost $10, it didn't sell out, but the band was still so happy to play a smaller show, they seemed to have a lot of fun, they were nice as fuck (though i heard they have fucked over some of my friends in some way or another, which sucks a lot) and they never once complained about money. they were happy with the way things went and they said they plan on coming back whenever a tour routes this way, and when it was mentioned to them that they could play a bigger venue, they said they'd rather play at the same small, low capacity venue again whenever they come back to town.
it was just bullshit. wittr is popular and i think it's gone to their heads. i had no idea i was talking to who i suppose is the main dude in wittr all night, and he seemed really fucking nice. i was planning on giving a poster to each band, and he traded me both of their tour posters for just one extra of mine, saving me 15 bucks.. which is why i didn't think they'd be such dicks about money, because if they were why wouldn't they be sticklers about the extra $15 for the posters?
it was extremely disappointing. i just have high hopes that everyone i meet is not an asshole, and i have luckily not met many of those with all of the bands that i have met while working shows... and i guess to put it in perspective like that, i'm lucky for that, but it sucks that these dudes were fucking turds.
