word to your mother. Vancouver was cool - there was a lot going on and great weather. I hadn't been up in a long time so it was nice - I always love Stanley Park. Spent most of my time in the downtown area - did a little shopping on Robson, went to some bars on Granville, but didn't make it to any shows other than some band in this Irish bar we went to. Saw a sweet fist fight between a couple of Australian guys. You were right about gastown - that place is kind of a shit hole although there is some cool architecture down there. Walked around Yaletown a little bit - nearly exactly like Portland's Pearl District - went to some brewery that wasn't too bad. Went to Granville Island - probably more trouble than it was worth (traffic) although the public market was nice.

I realized there is a city with less African Americans than Portland. There were a lot of hot chicks up there though - I will give it up for that. Went to a pretty good seafood restaurant on Denman (I think), then nearly was involved in about a 5 car pile up on the drive home.

All in all a great weekend.

I'm hoping this was the Morrissey, but the fact that a band was playing suggests something much more sinister.

Yep. In the old alternative rock days it was the home of the Town Pump, which was a great venue for cool bands, but these days it's not much more than a tourist trap. Excepting, of course, the Irish Heather.

Whoops. I should've warned you about GI. Any combination of sun, Saturday, or Sunday generally equals unwashed hordes. And there's really nothing down there to speak of (although I hope you at least made it up to the deck of the Sandbar).

Yeah - sandbar was cool - thanks for the tip. I don't even know the name of the bar on Granville - it was pretty chill.

I didn't make it to the Irish Heather - walked around a bit but didn't see it and we were already pretty drunk.

oh and one more thing - there was a lot of curling talk up there - what is up with that? You go 300 miles and all of a sudden skating with brooms becomes awesome?

Dude, I've watched the Canadian Sports Center (Sports Tonight maybe?) when I've been in Canada snowboarding, and its like Hockey first, then Curling (yo Manitoba beat Alberta eh), and then maybe some Raptors....

Hilarious, but its pretty fun to watch if ur drunk and I've heard its pretty fun to play (my friend Jeff does so in Seattle)

Or go 1000 miles east...

Curling's all the rage from mid-wisconsin on up. I am a transplant from GA, and thus unable to comprehend the attraction, but I will testify to its popularity here. That, and ice fishing, which appears to have only one redeeming quality, and that is that it gets these 300-pound men out of the house and away from their 250-pound wives for the better part of saturday, onto the relative peace of a frozen lake, where they can sit on an upturned white 6 gallon bucket and drink Point Beer while staring at a hole in the ice.

Yeh, I'm totally to blame on this one. Would've been cool to meet rparis, but maybe next time.

<--- doesn't have any friends who have ever talked about curling.
