Per recommendation to start a thread...

Anyone been to Munich or surrounding areas? Besides the normal touristy things -- Dachau, Nuremburg, Salzburg sightseeing stuff and the assload of museums in Munich -- anyone have any interesting recommendations/experiences/tips?

Go to the main Bier garten in the city centre. Freakin' awesome. Eat some meat out of the shops, go to the outdoor farmers market, travel a bit to Fusen and see the castles, while you're there you should ride a bike into the mountains...AMAZING beauty.

My 3rd favorite place that I've been to so far. has a real magic about it.

Dachau is very worthwhile.

Where else are you going in Germany? Anywhere North?

try not to get ripped off in all the tourist places.
maybe eat some weißwurst at the "donisl" before noon. that's pretty important. it's, when you are in front of the rathaus at the marienplatz, on the left.
try some nice bars in schwabing, unpretentious and younger people. I love these bars with long tables for like 10 or 20 people, you're going to sit with people you didn't know before and after one hour you know them. (this won't ever happen in berlin, for example...)
as a kid I was really into the BMW museum.

I'm mainly planning on staying in and around Munich -- only going to be there for a little over a week. A friend from undergrad is a tour guide and has offered up his couch -- so a pretty sweet deal. I'm sure he'll have more than enough suggestions to fill my time there; but I am curious to other's input since he's kind of a low key guy.

Where "North" do you suggest?
BTW, what are your first and second favorite places traveled?

berliner, where are you located in Berlin?

for some reason I especially enjoy Pankow. you might think that's absurd, lol.

I was going to suggest Lubeck & Berlin. Both absolutely incredible places, and my 2 favorite cities in Europe so far.

I'm like in the eastern centre, two subway stations from alexanderplatz.
I remember your love for pankow. there was this time where I had this really hot/mad/psycho girl, she lives there.
although pankow gets nicer the more you go to the northern parts, almost out of the city.

lübeck is very nice and has some pitoresque ancient areas. now, as I read the buddenbrooks some weeks ago, me and some friends wanted to go there again, to refresh the spirit of the book and combine it with a dinner there in one of the best restaurants in schleswig-holstein.

how did you end up in lübeck? do you know someone there?

Yep. Despite his shit-talking regarding music that often annoyed many, he was still a pretty entertaining fun-loving guy. We used to hang out with a similar group of friends my first two years in Winona, I gave him a radio show, etc...

go Facebook!

Cool. I'm in regular contact, though I do it via old school email. If I can ever afford a Europe trip, I hope to go there.
