Any of you ever have to deal with tree roots punching through your sewage line?

Cause there goes all the money I was saving for a nice pedal steel.

Where is the punch through? The city had to pay for my neighbors.

We dug up all the bushes, and then dug up and replaced section of sewage pipe that had this problem at my buddy Hassler's house. Dirty job but not insurmountable.

Yeah, i know i can do it, i just don't have the time at this moment, and it needs done sooner than later. It was a foot shy of where it would be the city's problem and not mine.

Question, and I know it's after the fact... do realtors not require sewer scoping before home purchases? It's pretty much required here, and anywhere there are older sewer systems. Did you already have a scope done and that's how you know you have damage? Scopes run about $100 I think.

Check into sleeving too... might be a cheaper alternative than paying for an entire replacement of the line.

If it's outside the foundation I don't think it's covered. Trees might fall under the act of God clause. My friend had to pay $5K to get their pipes fixed because of tree roots.

Fantastic. Why don't they make pipes that are impervious to tree roots?

The short answer is, NOTHING is impervious to tree roots. Sorry dude.

You can possibly buy yourself some time by renting one of those heavy duty snakes and cleaning out that shitter pipe.

When was your house built?

Those snakes are sometimes a real bitch to use, and if you have older clay sewer pipes you can do some major damage. When our sewer was clogged by roots a few years ago, I decided to just pay a guy $100 bucks to snake it, instead of renting my own for $60. The guy I hired worked for the city sewer dept. and knew exactly what he was doing, too.
