I haven't heard Tracy Thorn's voice in a long time, but it used to be my favorite. Still, there's not much that I can ever find wrong with a Mag Fields cover- Merritt is vastly underrated as a songwriter to me. Looking forward to listening to the rest of this today.

although on that note, I'm not sure we needed another cover of Papa was a Rodeo. Kelly Hogan pretty much worked that one out.

I have this:

and it's pretty cool in fits and starts (like the Kronos Quartet version of "Marquee Moon").
I think the Merge thing looks very cool.
I like covers records like this.

I'm pretty sure I saw them open for Man or Astro-Man? one time (or vice versa), but I don't remember a single thing about them.

This comp looks cool, but I'm all comp'ed out at the moment, having just bought Dark Was the Night.

it did make me pull out the Superchunk cover of 100000 Fireflies, but yeah, a LOT of this is recycle fodder.

one of the best bands to ever come out of the south...god I miss them...they were the only band worth seeing in ATL for a while. I remember Ballard being one of the nicest guys around.

that might well be my favorite Superchunk song. I also love their "Train From Kansas City" and "Beat My Guest", which makes me think that Superchunk might be a better cover band than I would've thought. Don't they do some karaoke thing somewhere?

also, I'm not sure Merritt could be underrated as a songwriter. He might be under regarded as a whole, but every piece of press/internet tomfoolery I've ever read on him has only mentioned his songwriting and/or Lemony Snicket association.
