I'm digging this new one from Pink Mountaintops a.k.a. most of Black Mountain.

It failed to make an impression the other night when I was listening to it.

I've played it a few times and quite like it. Then I went back and listened to the first two and I can't figure out why they don't get more play, especially the debut.

It's okay, but everything's okay.

Basically this is for those folks who need something new to like every week. It's exactly that good: it'll last about a week. I still think McBean is capable of something really great, but he's got to raise the stakes beyond this present indie cesspool if he ever wants to do more than simply put a down payment on a new house.

I liked the first Black Mountains album a lot when it came out and it certainly faded over time. He's taken that into prog territority, and the Pink Mountaintops just lacks the excitement of that first BM album. Moreover I'm not sure why he thinks these two bands need to be separate outlets.

I think I might take those out for another listen tomorrow before I finally delete them. They have all the elements that I typically like but it just hasn't hit me at all.

I pretty much agree with Radcliffe here. The next Black Mountain record needs to kill otherwise they're just gonna fade away

I enjoyed most of his output to date, including the Jerk with a bomb releases, but the first BM record remains his highlight in my eyes still...
