today i was delighted to come home to a package from sub pop.

to be honest... the no age record isn't working great on the vinyl format and im a bit disappointed... obits sounds fabulous

i would also like to mention that the bonus of that spooks record i got last week was that it came with 3D glasses and the cover art is in 3D ... i love shit like that.

i feel like the wide range of mixes throughout the album works a bit better on digital... seems like it should have been mixed a little less extreme on the vinyl. i'm ASSuming they've used the exact same mix for both formats. or that's how it sounds to my ears. on my setup all of those extremes are magnified. the bass heavy parts get too loud so i adjust my settings and then when they get to the high end of their sound i want to adjust again... i haven't found a setting that works for the whole album. for some reason i wasn't having this issue on the digital format.

i do love the album though.

I don't know who the hell Hot Snakes are , but I like surf music so I'll try to give it a listen.

it's more straight rock music than surf

Already grabbed it. The guitars do have an echoey surf sound that I dig. Not bad, may grow on me.

Lot of 4 Polish breaks/jazz records, bought for the copy of "Blues" by Breakout. Breakout are an awesome psych/prog band featured on all of the "...is not a four letter word" comps on Finders Keepers records. The others I'll listen to tomorrow.

P.S. I'm outwardly thrilled (yet secretly very scared) that I was informed this week that my record purchases this year, if I used the records post-buying in an easy (but proper) fashion, and keep better record of the transactions, are all (80% plus) tax-deductible, no matter how I buy them.

I hope to have another post in this thread tomorrow but, even if I don't, I'll have a few in the next week, plus my end-of-month record store trip to look forward to....

P.S. Dalen: This is the Best. Thread. Ever. Even though I feel slightly like I'm posting 3x a day in the "NP" thread, this was a great idea (as, to be honest, are most things started with Slayer). Thanks....

Bar-B-Q Killers: Comely - mid 80s trashy rock band with female front person from Athens.

Accelerators - Debut full length from a poppy punk band from Rotterdam, a personal favorite from this style of things I've heard this year.

Modern Machines: Thwap! - Trashy rock band from Minneapolis. released maybe 5 years or so back. Fun, energetic stuff and includes a Replacements cover.

Hot Snakes 'Suicide Invoice' is a kick ass record. Highly recommended.

Despite financial-ities, last night brought 2 gems I couldn't (or, to be more accurate, didn't) pass up:
