So I have finally come out of the fog of my hangover to post a report from last night's show.

The bill last night was two-fold. 1) Booker T and the DBT's and 2) The Drive By Truckers

Obviously, the Truckers are the backing band for Booker T and they took it very seriously. They all wore sport coats and none of them had microphones except for Booker. The effort was clearly made to put Booker T in the spotlight. It was fucking great. I've found the record pleasant enough but these really came to life live. I don't think I've ever been to a show where the opener was allowed an encore. I really didn't know what to expect but it was great.

Booker T and the DBT's set:

Pound It Out
Green Onions
Nan
Warped Sister
Space City
Born Under A Bad Sign (only song with vocals - Booker, I didn't know he wrote that song BTW)
Native New Yorker
Reunion Time
Potato Hole
She Breaks
Hey Ya

ENCORE:

Time Is Tight
Get Behind the Mule (Tom Waits cover)

Really cool to see Booker T lead them all like the veteran he is. Patterson would say later that it was one of the biggest honors he's had as a musician.

After a quick 15 minute break. The Truckers then came out. The sport coats were gone and it was time to get rowdy. I don't know if it was that they were closer to home, more refreshed, or what but they put the show I saw in Asheville in Feb. to shame. I got to see my first STEVE MCQUEEN and they played an extended jam of The Company I Keep that was just a terrific drunken sing along. They came out for a 3 song encore with Booker T that was just sick and played the best "Angels and Fuselage" I've ever seen them do with local Atlantan Kelly Hogan coming out to sing backing vocals on that one.

So fucking good. It just amazes me that they still never let me down. I was brutally hungover this morning (stopping by a bar next door for bourbon post show was a decided tactical error). I spent a shitload of money on merch (picked up a shirt and Brighter Than... on vinyl) but it was totally fucking worth it. Almost 4 hours of music with these guys. Thanks again to Yail Bloor for the tix. Sorry you couldn't be there hoss.

Setlist:

Lookout Mountain
3 Dimes Down
Ronnie and Neil
Uncle Frank
Goode's Field Road
I'm Sorry Houston
Women Without Whiskey
Sink Hole
The Company I Keep
Gravity's Gone
Steve McQueen
Home Field Advantage

ENCORE W/ Booker T

Zip City
Let There Be Rock
Angels and Fuselage (w/ Kelly Hogan)
