I don't anyone thinks you can eliminate gun crime by putting restrictions or even banning legal weapons.
It is very difficult to own a legal weapon here and folks still get shot but I have no doubts in my mind that far fewer people are killed because of the restrictions on gun ownership.
Also, almost everyone that does get shot are criminals. Illegal guns are very rarely used against innocents.
Incidentally, Britain had similar gun laws to the United States until about 100 years ago so there is a precedent of nations giving up their right to bare arms.
On the other hand we have much higher crime in general: burglaries, robbery, assaults, property damage etc, etc.
Personally thought, I rather live in a country where someone intent on doing damage to you has to get within arms length, or occasionally, samurai sword length.
