i won't say it sucks, but i am disappointed. where's the brutality? where are the really heavy riffs? some of it sounds like Alice In Chains to me.

for me it lacks more of originality than of heaviness. or let's say, less brutality is okay when the songwriting gets even better. this ones a step back in both terms. damn.

My friend who listens exclusively to metal and knows more about it than just about anyone on Earth says that it's the first Mastadon album he likes. He played me a couple clips and they didn't sound that great to me...I've never liked this band.

I mean I don't find a vast knowledge of metal that impressive because it's not exactly one of my favorite genres of music...I was just using it as a reference point.

It's no Leviathan. Or even Blood Mountain for that matter.

i've tried some newish metal in the last few years and this is prob my favorite in that timespan. (i'd like opeth better if it wasn't for the gruff vocals.)

So you prefer Opeth when they do the wuss vocals? Well, you like Genesis, so...

I ordered this, probably against my better judgment. I've liked all their previous albums, but I could tell from Blood Mountain that they were headed in a softer, proggier direction. I'm sure there'll at least be some decent ear candy on here.

so does anyone have a decent rip of this album? either this is the worst production of the century or the rips are still old. I can't listen to this through headphones, the cymbals sound just bad.

I should be getting this week and will let you know when I've got something up. I adore Blood Mountain, but their live sound mix is terrible. I'm wondering if that's now translating to the studio. :(

that would be very kind. I still hope that I only got a back and forth ripped 128 to 320 version although I'm not too optimistic.
